Ad on CL for two ash and a maple that are dropped and bucked. Can't get there till' after work but he said I had contacted him first so I'm in, rare thing for people to hold free wood as so many people don't show up when they say they will. We shall see what happens, updates and pics later tonight. Pic from CL, looks promising. 40 minute drive so I hope it pans out.
I'm going to borrow a trailer so hopefully just one if its only that pile. That looks like mostly maple to me and he said 2 ash trees so there may be another bigger pile somewhere.
Nice! Some big blocks (3'-4') so you may need to take a saw to get them down to a more manageable size.
Well, the guy was a man of his word by saving it for me and so was I by showing up when I said I would. Rare thing in the world of Craigslist today. There is a lot of wood there, pic is deceiving, at least 3-4 more loads with my setup. Going back tomorrow but I will be solo and there is a lot of big stuff there, 20-30" diameter. Going to have to eat my wheaties! Best thing is he has about 30 more ash and maple trees that will be coming down, hopefully I can get some of them. They are all yard trees but have been nicely maintained so they are pretty straight. Here's a few pics of my haul.
Awesome score Ashwatcher!!! Tell him your interested in the others and have him contact you directly when the others come down.
Yeah, I took my saws. He was a little hesitant at first about me using a saw on his property. He told me the tree company cut em to size so someone could just load em right up. I just laughed and said, right because most guys can just throw a 3-500 pound log over their shoulder. He agreed to let me run my saws and when he saw me putting on all my PPE I think he felt better. Halfway through he came out and asked me if there was a dirt bike running out here? I said no that's just my saw and then we shot the willy bobo about saws and all the while he was fixated on my 372.
Went and got another load this afternoon and then out to dinner with some friends for well earned dinner and cocktails. Will start working on processing tomorrow. Will make sure to give you guys some pics. To bed now though, many cocktails and wood collecting make for a good nights sleep.
Awesome score and I bet he will call you when the rest gets dropped.... It makes me all warm and fuzzy when I see a haul of free wood like that...
Here she is all unloaded. Should be a little over a cord im thinking. Just as I started getting into the big 30" stuff another guy showed up with his two sons. Worked out perfect, I was too tired to load them big rounds plus the trailer was at capacity and he had only brought a small 16" homeowners saw. Made quick work of it with the 372 for him and his sons to load. He was happy and so was I. I really hate dealing with huge rounds but sometimes feel bad just leaving them. Anyone take a stab at the type of maple this is? No leaves, just bark and split photos. Red maple?
