I realize that Lowes is not a flea market. That being said I was wondering what you guys thought. There has been a dirty hand tools 22 ton splitter sitting out front since at least June, maybe longer, but that's when I first noticed it. It is still there as of yesterday, just collecting dust and now with winter here it is covered in salt. It is all the way down at the end, outside, not even under the overhang where they put most of the power equipment. I'm sure there is nothing mechanically wrong with it, the exhaust shield is getting a little surface rust. Do you think if I talked to the manager they might knock anything off seen as its been out in the elements for 7 months, kinda like a floor model type deal? It doesn't hurt to ask, just wondering if anyone has any insight?
They may knock something off, it depends on the manager. If you use a Lowes credit card you can save another 5%.
Definitely worth a shot. I got my 22 ton husky that was sitting around like that for $849. I believe at the time they were going for $1049, or maybe even $1099. That was in 2013. Best part is that it did have issues so I returned it and they gave me a new in box one for the same price.
Go for it! Doesn't cost money to ask. Make it kind of a game, and see just how low they will go. You might be surprised! I know they have no problem marking deep discounts on their floor model or blemished kitchen appliances here.
Question might be, should you make an offer and wait for a counter offer, or the other way around? Either way, make sure you wait to see the regular manager.
Most seasoned hagglers will tell you always let the other guy talk money first. He may want much less than you were going to offer. In this case I say go for it! Ask how much they want for the rusty junk taking up valuable retail space. See what he says. You might or might not be surprised. Then you can make your counter offer. They are likely going to want that area for flowers, trees, and lawn equip soon. I bet he will make you a good deal.
Make sure you talk to the store manager they will want it gone might not even be a stocked item anymore
Go for it. I've done it numerous times with GREAT success. For example, at another big box store there was this Speeco 22 ton splitter sitting off to the side that was missing the valve and lovejoy coupling. Easy enough fix. After a little talk with the manager I took that baby home for $300 cash brand new.
wildwest just sw this in your sig. 1981 K5 Blazer (382,000 miles and still kickin') kickin and i bet tickin, the valvetrain on those sure does get noisy
Not sure what a valvetrain is? But doubt I'd hear it anyway with the new dual exhaust and no mufflers....... PS, thats my truck in my avatar from last fall.
