Here we are, a week since that post, and I still have about 1/2 of that 1/3 cord. I've used a little Oak since temps have dropped some, but that Maple could possibly last another week. We're due for some colder temps next week though. Still nice. Three Maple splits on top of the coals this morning at 7am, and the house is still at 73 at 11am.
I was just getting to the point of starvation at that time this morning at work, in anticipation of lunch.... Glad someone was home checking temps..... in slippers.....at 11 am......ah to be old......
Shoot, that's most of us! If I was 23 & knew what I know now..... I might be giving B Gates a run for his $
Yeah, didn't have a double hernia surgery at 23..... Could sling them windows into Dave's stove room all day back then.
If I go back to being 23, do I have to still be married to my first wife? If so, I'm not going back!!!
I would waste away if all I had for BF was yogurt. It might take a few years, but who's counting. So anyway........got a bit of the insulation done and hope to get the last wall done this afternoon. That's not lookin' promising though. Wife and FIL are napping, so I don't want to make much noise..........really cuts into my work time. Think I'll just make a run for taco ingredients. Dinner's calling.
... where you at papadave ... with this stove room project... ... bet it does a lot better with the wind now.
Yep, much gooder. Almost like a different house now. I think the 1/4" drywall will work just fine, so I need to either go get more in the Jeep (which requires cutting the sheets down), having what I need delivered (which costs more than the drywall), or possible borrowing my brother's work van or pickup to get the rest. Then ,all I need to do is find someplace to stack it while installing (small house). Fairly minor problems. I'll end up with some small butt joints above or below the windows, but shouldn't be able to easily tell once I'm done muddin'. Got moisture gettin' through the insulation onto the inside sheathing surface, so the sooner I get this drywall hung and mudded, the better. I swapped out the v-groove wainscoting for "beadboard in a blister pack". It's a little tough getting anything "extra" done, but I'm workin' on it. Put the utility tub back in the laundry room today. Got the light in Bev's closet wired in yesterday....or was that Monday? About 20 degrees out right now, and I had a small fire about 4 hours ago. The house is still 73. Got a small stack of Oak about 3'x7.5'x16" that I think might last until the end of the month. Didn't even turn on the DV heater last night with an overnight temp of 9. House was 68 when I got up. The convection deck should at the very least, be offered as an option. Works very well to keep moving hot/warm air off the stove and allows fewer fires. Aren't ya' glad ya' asked?
Looks like you've got a big win there buddy... really does. That's sounds like a big difference from where you started. WTG... All of the effort was worth it.
Room should be pretty nice......if I can ever get it done. Grandson's coming up this weekend, so maybe he and I can make a drywall run.
Larry savemoney has helped me decide to use 1/2" instead of the 1/4". I can make that work with a little effort. Here's a kicker (more like a kick in the butt).......slept in until about 8:30, and the house was down to 63. So, we lost 10 degrees in about 9 hours. Correction. I'm sure the house stayed pretty warm while the stove was crankin' for the first 3,4,5 hours of the burn, then the house started losing heat. All is not a bed of roses just yet. Guess I should quit sleepin' in, eh?
