I have been around gas stoves since born....Way before they had the safety knobs....Never had any problems...I just don't get it....
I still hope savemoney chooses to go electric. As we all get older we become distracted and more forgetful. I sure have. Big time. Gas appliances just sound like a really bad idea if it's even remotely possible that the operator might bump a knob or forget a burner/oven was on, etc. I doubt if any safety device on the planet will counter that. Larry now has his son's family living upstairs. Is cooking with gas worth the worry this incident may have created with them? And I should add, I've had a few gas heat surprises in the past. Not a fan at all. I know many love it though.
Yeah, I know. Been in many places with gas stoves too with no issues at all. I never thought I'd be so forgetful either though... You know... the older I am the better I was...
It is a hard decission, but I have to keep everyone happy and safe. I'm not changing the stove out until I can get the 220 wired in, and have the cash to invest in the new stove. In the interim, I have the safety knobs on order along with a gas alarm. I appreciate the comments. I asked for them. My wife, there is no changing her habits. We will see how this goes. Not that I anticipate any help from whirlpool, I am trying to get with their tech support to see if there is any modifications to deal with this. Despite what I want, I have to be realistic.
My wife likes to hang dish towels on the oven door. Once I caught the knob when hanging the towel. It was pretty easy to figure out when we caught a wiff of gas from another room.
A coworker had a gas fire in his kitchen after they left a pizza box on the stove and left home. Dog jumped up to see what he could get and turned on a burner under the pizza box. No major damage but they had to clean and paint the kitchen from the soot and smoke.
