It's not premium wood in my stacks. It's high end mid grade. 22 mbtu a cord for the ash I have.

I like to do side by side tests in my stove and the White Ash (not Green) will hold it own with Bur Oak and blow Mulberry out of the water.
Some times you can wipe your butt with those charts.

Lol, high end midgrade, that's the same misnomer as upper middle class.

I like silver maple too. It doesn't last as long as other maples, but it sure lights well. It's like box elder, which is a soft maple as well. I'll take all the box elder or silver maple I can get.

    Some charts are junk, yes.

That said I'm going by actual burns in my fireplace or insert.

I haven't been burning as long as some here, but I have burned a good bit of oak. Its good wood for sure, but I hate how long it takes to burn the coals down. Like tonight. I've been burning oak all day and it gets just as hot as any other wood I've burned, but I have to spend more time burning the coals down before I can load it up again. Oak just doesn't work out as good as the faster burning woods for me because I'm heating from the basement and need the higher temps to get the heat upstairs.

Eh, not when your premium wood is shag, ironwood, or sugar maple. ;)

There's pretty much no middle class anymore, unfortunately.

Would love to do a side by side bun test with some of the members here and many of the different woods.

Dude, you woke my wife up. Made me laugh that loud, I blamed it on you.
You get to take the trash out, your fault. I'm serious.

I agree the Coaling is terrible, I only find it to happen when running the stove pretty hard though. On the upside the oak throws far more heat during Coaling than anything else I've burned.

Butcher, I posted something recently about burning a different hardwood than I'm used to, so I get it. I'll stick with what I have available, not the "exotic" stuff.
I'm good with the LodgePole Pine, seriously. hashtag#LPM ! ("lodgepolematters" )
