I'm splitting the cases on a 2165. The crank was locked up tight I had to hammer it around by the counter weights to get the splitter in. I didn't order the 2nd bearing in the right size so I'm waiting on one of them for assembly.
I'm slow and do crappy work so don't watch too close. Always split the case and don't check the oil tank for bar oil. Makes the bench, vise, and floor well lubed
The splitter came from weedeaterman. Its been well worth it for ease of splitting the flywheel side. I had built a splitter for the clutch side for a few saws but never one like that.
I have all the husqvarna and stihl splitters this why i tell you nice splitter , also i have sent templates for splitters to many members because they want to copy the oems, so if you need a template- dimensions of a splitter or other stihl-husqy tool fell free . i will sent you FREE
The splitter in the vise is because it needed more force to turn to pop it loose at first Then I could put on it on the bench.
I was looking for bearings. I finally found 2. I started this 2 nights ago. I'll get back on it shortly.
so far i havent found a saw that style splitter wont work on...spread the ears a bit to fit 066 and squeeze them back together when you go back to regular saws. the 2258/2260 555/562 lists a different splitter but i havent been into them to see how little room there really is around the crank. here is the splitter that they call for.
I got the nice crank installed. I removed the shields from the 6202 zz C3 bearing I had. I heated the case halves in the oven at 325 for around 30 minutes. The bearing fell in the flywheel side by hand when the case halves came right out of the oven. I had to reheat the clutch side since it cooled too much. I got it slid together to less than 1/4" together by hand. I had to tap on the crank on the flywheel side to center the crank and get it to spin free.
Essentially being a full circle crank because of the stuffers husky uses, there is no room to put the splitter inside the crankcase. 575/576 are the same way.
I have the same splitting tool and I use it to center the crank as well. It's easier than trying to tap on the crank with a dead blow/hammer. Remember, Lakeside always preached to never use a hammer on a saw. Lol
I put the shaft and bearings in the freezer for about 2 hours, while theese are in the freezer i heat the halfs of the case using a heat gun , i dont use ovens , just heat the bearing places for about 5- 7 minutes , then i put the cold bearings to the cases ( the shaft continue to stay in the freezer ) . the next step is i use a modify soldering iron 100 watt and heating the inner ring of the bearings ( only the inner ring not again the all bearing or the case ) then i put the shaft to the one bearing and heat again the other bearing and close the other half case.
Yep I have one of those I made also. The last case I split was a Husqvarna K960 concrete saw and it uses those same crank stuffers mentioned by AJtree88. I do not have any of the OEM case spitters so I just improvise it depending on the saw. The one that Pantelis is showing will not work on a concrete saw.
