    Nice question Clems, I meant to update this thread and you reminded me.

    second item is a modem, takes the info from phone line/cable/satellite dish so it can talk to computer for internet

    first item is router, once modem is there, one can use a router for wireless connection to modem

    third item, after talking with another member here........is mostly used for a baby monitor:)
