Anyone there?

I have stove in shut down mode. It is still in s d mode. It looks like flames are coming down from tunnel where pellets come from? What should I do? Are pellets from hopper burning up there and the air is pushing flames down.? What about when air stops after shut down over!????

 

Unreal. That was a little scary. I had put stove in shut down mode in order to clean it. I had just cleaned it Saturday morning. The glass was almost entirely black on the door so it looked like the flames were coming down from the tunnel where the pellets come from, knew the air would stop soon so I took the chance of opening the front door quick to see what tfwu? I realized the burn pot was overflowing with pellets.?why the hell would that happen? I just cleaned it yesterday morning and have been cleaning it on a regular basis. I quickly used a putty knife to knock the pellets down off the top of the burn pot, when I did mor pellets came down from tunnel. Then they started to burn. So I opened door quick again and with glove on grabbed the burn pot and dumped it into ash pan on right side. Then closed door quick and let everything cool down. WTF?

 

No fire here. I do have extinguisher here just in case.

 

Boy does that tick me off. Maybe there was no threat there and it just seemed that way. Maybe A combination of these pellets and the fact that I had turned down to three caused it to burn too slow and then the pot got filled? I don't know. I'll hopefully discuss this with you guys later. Time to go for a walk and blow off some steam. Leaving stove to cool and come back and clean it later.

 

Hate to say it, but the most common reason for an overfull burn pot is a lack of burn air......read that a dirty stove, plugged/dirty exhaust pipe, or blocked air intake.. Do I remember correctly that the exhaust on this stove has a pretty long horizontal run?

 

That could exactly be it to Gas......BUT...you have got to try and get that thing LBM'd out.....you still weren't able to get the horizontal part cleaned out yet correct?

 

He has the standard out and up I believe....2 foot out and 3 foot up.

 

Negative on the long horizontal run. The back of the stove is just over 6 inches off the wall. I think it might be 7. The horizontal goes out the back of the stove, through the camp wall, and then the clean out is right there. So the horizontal run is like a foot long.

 

LBM'd out. Fill me in on what this means. I am assuming cleaned out real good. Like a bunch of these guys are feeling right now after eating the Chili they posted and ate over the last two days. LOFL

I never would have thought I would have to buy a leaf blower when I bought my Pellet Stove. Just another thing that is you pellet heads fault. First you tell me I have to clean the stove, but not the "whole" stove. And now, after the fact, you tell me I have to buy a leaf blower to clean my chimney! UGH!

 

Wait, you have to clean these things?

 

Yes! And the whole friggin thing! Often!

 

I think we might have left that out in the beginning, we didn't want to scare you away!

 

My dealer, Lowes, said "Which one did you want again?" LOFL

I hate to say this but if you haven't used a leaf blower (suction mode) or an air compressor (blow mode) to clean that stove's inner exhaust pathways out and you have burned a ton or better you likely have a dirty rotten stove.

Where do you think all that ash went? Some of it is hiding from you, you are a big meany as far as that ash is concerned.

Now you have to clean it out.

Remember, everyone, a clean stove is a Safe, Happy, and Warm stove and so is its owner. A dirty stove is a Dangerous, Mean, and Nasty House Destroying stove.
