cuz it looks kinda no good to me. Moms neighbors zero clearance, second season. Wont listen to what i have to preach. Doesnt like to season oak more than six months cuz it burns too fast. "It'll be fine". Oh well.
These pics are taken with my phone through a pair of binos, lol.

As far as I'm concerned Darwin has the answer for stupidity. Tell them once and let them suffer the consequences.

At least you need binos...that means mom is safe from the chimney fire when it happens.

Unless they're close enough to touch your place off! Can show them the manual or pictures of your cap vs theirs but if they're not buying what you're selling there's not much you can do.

As I'm fond of saying.....You can lead a person to knowledge, but you can't make them think.

I wonder how long since the last cleaning?

Sad, but one can find many examples like this. And I just don't get it with folks who say the wood burns too fast if it is dry. Isn't that why they put draft controls on a stove? Burn wet wood and you need more draft. Burn dry wood and you don't need so much and the chimney will also stay clean.

That reminds me of the joke my older brother told me he heard when he was getting his biology degree.

You can lead a Horticulture, but you can't make her think.

Discreetly call the fire marshal. Then hopefully he swings over with some knowledge for them.

Maybe insist on a chimney cleaning?....or if you have tools, do it for them, then explain why there is black popcorn poop in their chimney.

WOW. That's the same type of cap I have. I didn't think it was possible to clog 1 of those types till I say those pics. Since you have already spoken to them maybe you should show them those pics and if they don't or cant clean their own chimney give them the name of a good sweep in your area. I wouldn't offer to clean it for them though just for liability reasons.
