Had a guy caught on camera walking right off a platform and get smacked by a Lite-Rail train. Blew him back onto the platform. I think he lived.
Wanna guess what he was doing before train gave him the smack down?

No cell phone for me either.

I had a health screening at work the other day, they asked me for my cell #. When I said I don't have one, they said did you read the confidentiality statement? We won't give your number out.

Yes, it is indeed very sad. I guess it is a form of addiction. The way these devices consume and overwhelm people is 'an addiction to self.' And our churches are empty. Go figure!

I will tell you that I feel much safer having a cell phone. If I am outside and fall, or if I am on the road and run into a problem, or if I come upon an emergency, I can get a much better response then just waiting for someone else to come across me or the incident and get help. Another nice use is the camera. I would miss out on a lot good pictures if it were not for cell phones, not just the pictures I take, but of the ones taken and shared with me.
One of my favorite uses is taking a picture of an item while out shopping. I then look it up and compare values. Another use is amusing myself reading or games while the wife in the stores grocery shopping.
I don't answer the phone while driving. but I do pull off the road to respond to a call or some text.

I agree Larry, to a point... I like having my small flip phone in my pocket too when I'm down in the woods or at the cabin for safety reasons. That's it for me though. But you and I have lives that go back to when folks never heard of iPhones or the internet and, yup, we all survived just fine. You like the new capabilities with tech today. Nothing wrong with that. I've wondered about younger people however, who have always had tech in their lives. An iPhone in one hand doing any other task. Common sense has not been instilled in many young people. If they don't see it on-line then it must not be happening. Heads stuck in the iPhone screen while life flies by. While it seems all too obvious to me, I know young folks would probably just say I was an old fart who just didn't get it... :BrianK: ... but, if the "plug" ever gets pulled for any reason... God help us all. Seems like awfully thin ice to me.

A phone is a tool, just like any other.
Use it that way and all is good.

i agree from the safety stand point ,its the obsession i cant understand ,young people today dont even go outside ,cant go anywhere with out gps ,i am actually nervous driving ,these gizmos are responsible for more deaths and injuries than i can believe ,but of course there is no way to do anything about it ,maybe a class before you can buy one,a waiting period perhaps ,how about a background check ? if you have had more than 5 wrecks in 2 years you cant have one ,yeah i know im nuts ,its to bad they cant be used as a tool and used responsibly ,but i guess that could be said about many things.

This reminds me of a story I've told before, I believe.
Oldest daughter and son-in-law (now ex SIL:thumbs:) lived with us for a while a few years ago, and they had GPS in their vehicle.
To better understand the absolute idiocy of this, we can go e/w, or n/s on the 2 main highways around here to get anywhere "important". You can't miss your destination. You can't.
    It's unpossible.
So anyway, anytime they'd go to the "big city", which was pretty much a straight shot either east or west, our moron SIL would turn on the GPS.:picard:
    Every time.
I'm still completely baffled by it, considering our daughter seemingly has a GPS in her brain. That girl just knows how to find a store:rofl: :headbang:....but that's another story.

We were talking about iPhones when we had family here. I got on my soap box and mentioned to 4 younger ones I thought it would be a good idea for young families to maybe take a time out once a month, or more, where all phones and computers were turned off for the day. Went over big... o_Oo_Oo_Oo_O...

For me, no cell phone = no FHC. I tether my phone to PC for internet. No cable or land lines out where I live.

How's that work for ya? I'm in the same situation, My house wireless is cellular, only option. Wondering if a iPhone hotspot could serve as my house wireless...would save me a little bit on my monthly connection fee. I don't have a cell phone, yet I have a $300/month cell bill:picard:

I don't know anything about I phones (old fart). I am using a 9 year old Motorola flip phone. My standard data plan provides more than enough a month for my needs. Not blazing fast, but a far cry from dial-up.
