My new washer is like what you mention.....no real center agitator. Much less water use, and less energy use. Clothes seem to be just as clean as before.

In regards to your comment about the detergent, I actually spoke to a tech for Whirlpool after getting the new one last year....had a question only they could answer. But basically, he told me about a repair class he attended, and they were told that consumers are using WAY too much detergent.....there is a lot of it still left in the clothes after washing.

He said they actually washed a load of dirty clothes without ANY detergent added, and they came out just as clean as with detergent. So I asked him how much to actually use.....he said at least 1/2 or less of what you normally use.

Went to Lowes for my new kitchen appliances. We bought the extended warranty for 3 items. It didn't say what three, but it is for three of them. If buying the warranty keeps them running, then that is all I want!

Of all the extended appliance warranties I've ever bought, I only needed to use one, and that was for a flat screen TV I bought at Sam's Club in 2008. The TV wouldn't turn on about 18 months after I bought it. Made a call, they sent someone out to pick it up, offered me a loaner TV and dropped off the repaired unit a few weeks later.

I bought the Lowes warranty when I got my Geospring water heater a couple years ago. $99 for 10 years was a no brainer.

I bought a third party auto warranty about 7 years ago on a used car. I swore I'll never buy a third party auto warranty ever again after fighting tooth and nail to get reimbursed for covered repairs. I finally ditched that POS vehicle and cancelled the warranty (in writing, certified mail, just like it specified). I got the refund check for the unused portion of the warranty 11 months later. Gotta give them credit for following through on the refund at least.

Yep it was cheaper to refund it than pay for the repairs. If there was a class action suit, you've made a civil arrangement and have no further ability to file a claim. Deny and delay....

If you added all of the extended warranties you could buy together, most of the time you could just buy a new appliance and still save money on that one lemon that we all get stuck with. I don't bother with the extended warranties, most things I repair when they need it. I attended the Snowy Rivers homesteader school.;)

Appreciate all the great info guys, :handshake:

yeah, we use way too much detergent here also, and have the same "great" luck w/ warranties also.. :headbang:

Current washer has a 10 yr. transmission warranty (still covered), everything else (parts/labor) is $$$ ... :jaw: :picard:

Thanks Larry, it was worth a try - and after 9.? years, we got our money's worth out of it, so it's cool.

Heck, you can probably find a FREE washer on CL to tide you over until you can do your homework and find exactly what you want. The ads usually state if they are for scrappers or if they work.

Really? NOthing in Keeneland? That is so odd. Hey, I'm probably headed over to Concord HD tomorrow too - funny if we bump into each other. You will have to be the one that says something - I'm always too focused on what I am looking for/at, or thinking of possibilities for future projects to notice anything/anyone around me.

Remember this pic from my installing new shelves last week? (if not, just smile sagely, nod and go with the flow)

Well, guess what is in that red Bacardi box on the middle shelf. That was a box that I had moved from my previous abode, and kind of got stuffed in a corner while I was trying to get my life, and this house, in some sort of order. Guess, go on Guess . .

Anyone who guesses Rum, doesn't spend enough time reading my posts :D

VODKA :dancer:  ! Yep, from before my vodka days (I was drinking wine then), but I was making real vanilla. And, I was making flavored vanilla too. So there are several bottles of cherry, regular and raspberry vodka in there. I'm enjoying raspberry vodka tonight - different from the pineapple I normally buy, but very good. I don't think I'll have to buy vodka for a while anyway :dex:

Never tried it, but does look interesting. I'm not normally one for rhubarb. But vodka, like chocolate, can make almost anything taste good. Okay, that's not true, there are some truly horrible flavored vodkas out there like pecan pie - which I tried, I really tried to like, but finally had to throw out it was so horrible :(). But, too be fair, a lot of the horrible ones are because they make them sickly sweet. So, being able to control the amount of sugar used, and adding strawberry juice if needed, I think I could make it work.

    Thanks for the idea!

Hmm, in that box is some regular vodka. I gotta go to the store tomorrow. In the basement, on some shelves of stuff that were left with the house is a big glass mason jar (the size shown in the recipe). I'm beginning to put 2 and 2 together and getting some number that adds up to making rhubarb vodka :stirpot:
