Driving home saw where they had cleared a lot and had a log pile. Stopped and asked and they were happy to have me cut on it. Locust, Maple, Cherry etc... A little debris, but pretty easy cutting and made a nice little trailer load to start of the year with. Happy New Year all!
Lol I had a picture in my head of what a nice little trailer would look like and then I looked at your pictures. Nice haul for sure! Its great when the gettin is easy!
Yet another nice haul by Greg. I must be livin' wrong or something......I never come across scrounges like that.
It's weird, plenty of wood but seems like either people don't want to do the work or they have converted to gas. And since gas and oil are both cheap now, seems like the trend may continue, which is fine with me.
Looks good Greg. How's that trailer treating you? I'm down to PJ, load trail, and sure trac on a 14 foot 14k dump. Heading up to best choice in the next couple weeks to take a closer look..
I really like it. Couple of observations. To have drop down sides makes loading it much, much easier. So would recommend them if you can get them on models you are looking at. Second, I went 16 ft long, because it was only an extra $600 bucks that 14 I think, and I have always heard to get as big as you can and you won't regret it. So far that has been very true. I got 5th wheel/goose neck, as even though I pull with an F250, I wanted the extra weight distribution over the trucks rear axle, and it does trail nicely behind you even when loaded very full. While i thought about losing storage in the truck bed while towing, you don't lose that much, and i can strap wheel barrows down on top of the spare tire which is above the goose neck section. Lastly, and this is funny, i have used the dump many, many times, but have recently so much enjoyed having the wood waist high, that I just stood at the trailer bed mid point, dropped a side, and then could unload almost everything with my pickeroon right to the splitter. So then i only have to bend over once to get the wood into the bed, and not again. I note your in Greencastle, and I am off 81 just past Carlisle. You would be a welcome guest to check anything about it you like, and happy to share any details of where i got it, how much i paid. Anything that would help. I'm hoping it will be my last trailer!
My thoughts exactly! Thinking 4x8 utility trail. 16 ft gooseneck! I could probably fill that twice and have enough for a winter of burning. How much do you estimate it holds?
Thanks Greg.. I might take you up on that before we buy.. I'm pulling with a 250 as well but it will definitely be bumper pull. I don't wanna drop another grand into getting the rails and hitch. I could totally see myself just hand unloading the wood too..haha.. Thanks again Greg. It's gonna be May or June before I buy it but I think I will take you up on your offer before I sign on the dotted line..
There's a good "Mom & Pop" business there in PA. called Weavers Dist. I bought several Gooseneck pop up hitches from then along with other trailer stuff. If you get "Lancaster Farming", they usually have an ad in there. There is a big difference between 5th wheel & g/n. The g/n is a ball in the bed and has a heavier gtwr than the 5th w. About $400 for my last one in 2002. Heck I have that hitch sitting around but prolly too much to ship.
