The shooting sports I do have me trained to a grip angle. If I have a gun in my hand resting by my leg, just holding it. I find a fixed point in front of me, then close my eyes and raise the gun to point it at the point I chose. Iexpect the gun to be pointing at that spot. There are guns the just don't point right, glocks are the worst. 1911's. Xd's and most revolvers point right.
First test for me is it has to just feel right...with any gun. Second test is what you described. I've only done this with long guns before...but the glocks never had the sights line up right. Had to point down more than felt natural.
Exactly, they always point high. They do this because the increased angle aligns your wrist with your forearm to limit the amount of movement in your wrist to minimize the effect of recoil, nothing that training can't fix.
I f'd up my wrist on a dirt bike a long time ago. Anything other than a natural angle hurts after a while. I could only get about 2 mags through my BILs 9mm before I had try say uncle.
I think there's more to it than just the grip angle with Glocks. I bought a Glock 23 years ago as my first handgun. I NEVER shot it well, and eventually sold it last year. I do shoot much better with all of my guns that have the familiar 1911 grip angle, but I also shoot very well with my Ruger Mark I which has an even steeper grip angle than a Glock does. So I can't blame my poor shooting on the grip angle.
Now it's time to start shopping for a good IWB holster....and a full size shooter. I fear I have been bitten by the FAD bug.
Got a few mags through it today. Shoots really nice. Makes me want to go gets its big brother the XDM.
feels different in the hand, less texture for one. Also the trigger is different, i feel the original XD's trigger breaks more cleanly.
