Nice, what did you think of it?

My wife and I were blown away by it. When the X Wings first came into the scene in this film, it was one of those "whoa!" moments.

It was good. I'm not a big fan of the series though. I was entertained...that's about it.

The toros and other well known quality 2 strokers were sucking wind big time. My neighbor across the street, total b!tch BTW, gave up on her newer Toro 2 stroke in the same amount of snow we have the other day. She ended up calling a plow service because her thrower was not throwing.

I know single stagers work, when driven with enough torque. They work great on tractors.

This snow was epic though. It's the heaviest snow we've had in 15 years per one experienced snow plow driver.

I will say those toros work in most conditions, but his snow was outside of their limits.

That works a little. I use car wax in the chute of my ariens. That lasts much longer than cooking spray. I never had any snow chute cloggage yesterday, out ever on my ariens, but the old 5 hp simplicity 520 I had would clog all the time.

Seriously those toros are great, most of the time, but not in this stuff.

They do have their limits, especially if it gets deep and messy like you describe. But then again, I'm sure most 5hp two-stagers were hatin' life too!

I get a good chuckle at some of the big-box snowblower offerings because some of them appear to have been designed by an engineer who has never seen one of these things operate first hand. Mechanisms that will certainly freeze, impellers/augers that wouldn't survive a Popsicle stick, and chute openings that wouldn't pass gas, let alone a decent charge of heavy snow! But don't worry, they all have heated handle grips and electric start! (Even the baby single stages that my 3 year old can pull over....)

Who needs to engineer a snowblower? Use an aluminum gearcase made of crappy Chinese alloy, use super thin steel on the body, use 1 belt instead of 2, etc. Just make sure the handles are heated and it has electric start. It'll sell then. ;)

I only ever used the electric start on the simplicity when the recoil rope broke, and when I sold it to show the buyer that it worked.

I've never used the e start on my ariens. I'd rather have paid $50 or 100 less to not have e start personally. The heated grips? Eh, wear decent gloves and I've never had an issue.

Husqvarna was a prime example of a machine engineered for the showroom floor. Big engines, all the bells and whistles, even tracks on a couple models..... And wait for it..... A three piece axle for the augers. Two stub axles on the ends and one short one centered in the Chinesium gearbox. the first time that thing gets used to retrieve the Christmas lights or garden hose, it's going to spread the thin sheet metal housing like it isn't even there. I hear they have gone back and redesigned the line recently however so I may have to give them a second look.....

I just got done doing heated grips on my FIL's Toro PowerMax. Which, until this year hasn't been an option on those. Was able to retrofit the grips from this years models to his 2013 unit, with a fair amount of "Plastic Surgey". ;)

Iirc, the new husky blowers are made by ariens, and ariens tractors and riders are made by husky. So the new husky blowers are good, from what I hear.

I don't have heated grips on my ariens, but I've thought about putting them on. Then again, I've never gotten cold hands while snowblowing.

Yesterday was more work, so that kept my hands warm. In the lighter or less than the 8.6" of slop we got, the ariens can be kept in a rabbit gear, lol, and you have to move pretty fast to keep up with it, so you keep warm that way too. The more I think about it, no hand warmers is fine. Less complex= simpler, and that's gooder.

I figure I'm good for another 30 years or so but in my FILs case, the game is changing for him as he closes in on 60.

Ariens has made great blowers for other OEMs in decades past as well. Had a big Deere two-stage that I sold to someone who wanted it more than me. Kinda wish I still had it but the tractor mount is working for me so far.

When the snow is heavy wet stuff, even plows have a time moving it around. I can understand Horkns point. Even though a single stage works good, I have to agree that it would've had it's asp handed to it with that cement he got. Heck, even the shovels have a work out when the snow is wet!!!

A couple of people in the Milwaukee area died shovelling the snow we had the other day.

U guys are talking snowblowers.....hell, I make $ clearing snow and still have last year's gas in the sidewalk blowers!

Long range pattern is hinting at another polar vortex split here in later January per my pay weather services. Sound familiar? Midwest ppl, winters a comin'.
