Wish I got that here in NJ. Just swapped out a non epa stove for a Woodstock Ideal Steel. NJ is too busy pizzing it's money away on wasteful spending.
Same here Babaganoosh . Our government is like yours. Lots of waste. So that $1k wouldn't ever happen here. Thanks for posting that link savemoney. Seeing the Androscoggin valley mentioned, with Peru really takes me back to when I lived in Bethel.
Horkn, a good book from that area is The Trees in My Forest by Bernd Heinrich - made me homesick when I read it while living out west.
I have seen a couple offers like that in MA but I haven't ever seen much in the way of advanced notice and the subsidy money is gone in the first couple days. The last one they ran a story about the kickoff at a local retailer, by the time the story ran the money was gone.
Here's a link for all the states that have switch out subsidy programs. $1,000 for my state. Too bad I didn't have an old stove to switch out when I bou my IS. HPBAs Wood Stove Changeout Program: Changeout Projects Here's a link for the federal tax credit for new purchases of efficent wood and pellet stoves which was extended to the end of 2016. Heated Up!: Congress Extends Wood Heater Tax Credit through 2016
I'm gonna have to look into the federal 300 and Maryland supposedly has 500 for a cleaner woodstove. That's almost half of the IS
However; if these folks that got these stoves in exchange don't change their burning practices, they will be very unhappy with these new stoves and pollute just as much if not more than they were prior.
Nothing for our state. Considering how many wood burgers we have here, you'd think that we'd want to be part of this. The federal one doesn't state new or used, but does mention the efficiency. Hmmmm...
I looked high and low for rebates/tax credits when we replaced many appliances that were several decades old, items including water heater, oven, 2 smoke dragons, and washer/dryer. No credits/rebates available. Makes one wonder.
$1000 is a nice incentive. I am surprised they don't do more education on burning dry wood at the federal and state level.
Our local stove shop (almost qualify as crooks they're so expensive) have a pamphlet that is given out by our county explaining the importantance of burning dry wood. My county is probably one of the strictest if not the strictest area to buy, use and have a wood burning appliance. Most people in my area think it's plain old illegal to have a wood stove at all in your home. Our laws are if you live on less than one acre then you can install one wood burning stove which emits one gram or less of particulate matter per hour. If you live on an acre or more (which is almost no one within the City of Reno and City of Sparks, NV) you can install any EPA approved stove. So everyone on less than an acre can only install one of the 5 stoves on the market that burn 1.0 or less of particulate matter per hour. Also we have burn bands and a color coded system to regulate it during our winter inversions we get. Got off topic sorry but I agree and think more education needs to be given (public service ad maybe) showing a quick blurp on the importance of burning dry wood.
My personal opinion on that is this......................I don't want our government...................whether it be Federal, State, County, or Local to get into the "WHAT IS DRY WOOD BUSINESS". Most governments are run by people with no expertise in anything except getting elected. I will not continue for fear of being Moderated!!!
I'm talking education and awareness. Not laws and rules. I am also done. And am glad for moderation and zero political discussion.
With all due respect.........................."Who You Crappin'"?????????? You cannot "mandate" anything in our country without the tentacles of government getting involved!!! You say "education". Is it voluntary or mandatory??? I agree with your creamy, perfect world scenario....................................but that ain't it by a long shot!!!! Just saying.....................
Education can be defined in a couple ways. One way is an enlightening experience. You are showing/teaching someone something they did not know. It does not involve a law or rule that is forcing anything. Awareness can also be defined in several ways. One way is knowing and understanding a lot about what is happening in the world or around you. The sharing of the knowledge of the benefits of burning dry wood could be done through radio messages, TV messages, mailings, etc. There does not have to be rules or laws. My point is it can be done by the local, state, or federal government with out forcing anything. Wait. Who used the word mandate?
It's too easy for most wood burners to cut in the late Summer/early Autumn to burn that same Winter. That's what I'm talking/typing about!!!!
Alaska had a program a few years ago. I got the BK & did some other energy improvements Then got a rebate (a little over 50% of what I paid out) from the state. Fairbanks has a change out program going on now & for the past few years. Change Out Program - Fairbanks North Star Borough Air Quality Division
