It sure helps when the wife is able to get on board and do some loading and start ups. Mine is pretty good at it as well and is also comfortable using the IR to monitor stove top and flu temps. Nice looking set up and good lookin pooches
Horkn .... your wife did a great job... Love that Pic too... Canadian border VT ... Good Luck and hopefully the ice will stay away... I hate ice, rather contend with 12" of snow than ice... Preparedness is the key to getting through the worst case... 25 Degrees... Just loaded up with Hedge and Hone Locust for the night burn... The next three or fours days will be all out burning... Finally, so much easier to get in a burning pattern this way..
About 17 tonight as well. Some wind, and it be cold. Ash and Pine keeping the boiler warm. Snow will be coming soon.
It's going down to 6 here tonight. Still rockin' the pine, spruce, fir, poplar mix in the boiler and getting 12 hour burns. Gonna see if I can make it to the new year on shoulder wood!
Oh yeah it is great. It took a bit of coaxing to get her to go from the FP to the insert, as several of you FHC'ers recall. But she's on board the choochin' train. Knowing the nasty weather was coming, I filled up the totes with wood and battened down the tarps so she's wouldn't have to go outside for anything except letting the little guys out to do their business. Thanks for the compliment on the dogs. We're pretty proud of them. The white english lab is just 6 months, 60 lbs and very smart.
I loaded up all oak tonight. Low 30's winds blowing, on off sleet & rain. Expected to sleet and snow overnight only amounting to a trace before changing to rain in the morning, hopefully.
Yep...It's mid 30's here and rain following snow earlier. What a mess. I have a mix of pine / cherry / ash going. Very warm in here. Happy to finally be burning wide open. If I get too warm in here, the temps will be in the low 70's by the a.m.
Weather decided to turn to winter here today, 28° sleet, snow and wind. Burning Ash, Cherry and Maple... 76° in the stove room.
Time for a bit of rest. The snow was supposed to have started by now, but it is only windy outside; no snow. Wind chill is around 3, but the temp is rising a bit (2 degrees) since I got home this afternoon. Maybe this snow will bypass us? Looks like the eastern portion of the U.P. will be taking the brunt of it for up here anyway.
I wish winter would make up it's mind. The constant rain and temps hovering at freezing are creating a mess outside. I'm anxious for some dry air and 20 degree overnight lows. Anything below that makes burning a bit more of a challenge. I wait till midday to let the stove cool enough to clean out. I have to empty ashes about once a day with a 2.3 cubic foot firebox to be able to pack full for overnight burns. Some ash is good, but I need to do a daily cleanout.
We are smack in the middle of this El Nino effect. We are getting warm temps and precipitation from down south. Very mild winter so far. I hope for a cold and dry January. Doesn't usually work out that way. We get extreme snow and cold in January.
Once the deep freeze finally hits (if) the ground is so saturated, it'll be like concrete. Hoping tomorrow morning isn't too icy. We're at the freezing mark now with rain/sleet.
The outside temp is at 15 tonight, I loaded the Liberty up with Cherry and set the Pellet Stove on 74.
Just checked outside before bed. Mix of snow, sleet, and rain..... deck is getting icy. Hopefully the power stays on.
El Nino hasn't hit yet. Weather will get interesting end of Jan., all of Feb., and into Mar. or so I read somewhere..... Tonight I went ahead and did it. Full load of Ash and Mulberry. I may not have to reload for a week.
El nino is hitting and affecting many already. We've had the warmest december on record in Milwaukee due to el nino.
I hear you, but the full effect isn't here yet. I'm expecting warmer than normal temps. and mucho up-slope snowfall.
Agreed. Im just waiting for the big thaw that other folks have experienced. At least im lucky that Im frozen to begin with. We have been below freezing by quite a bit for awhile now and looking to January 8 we range from -2c - 18c which is a bit above normal but pleasant. After that who knows? I remember a few years back when we had a whopper of a la nina in the forecast. We were expecting very cold weather, colder than anything we had in years..... it turned out average. You folks will hear me complaining if it all melts around here. House is warm. Sad day though.... Lemmy from Motorhead passed away. Means little to non metal fans but he was a favorite in the genre, old rocker, used to be a roadie for Jimi Hendrix.
