Good stuff wildwest thats pretty chilly. I have an inkling that you were ok with it and the stove was flexing its muscle. We had -11f this morning but warmed up from there. Went to a hike in lake with a good friend today. His husky and mine are buds. Snow was about knee deep at the deepest so not to bad. His is in the first frame and Tunrda is in the second. Weve warmed up nice tonight to a cozy 10f. It sure is easy to keep the house comfy with my super 27 at this kind of temperature!
When I saw this post, you had -19! Thinking someone will be on duty keeping the stove fired up, no? Brrr.
32 here.... Got Honey Locust holding up the house temperature... Will probably be moving more wood to the house today if the rain holds off... The next 36 hours could be dicey, depends on how the storm tracks
20* out this morning at 5:30, house still at 70, down to 17* now where its predicted to stay until lunch time then on down it goes. Loaded the stove with red oak this morning. Pretty much going to be the routine till I get to the elm thats slated to be for march/early april. Now with theses temps I see Ice fishing on the near horizon!!
5 here...elm and mulberry, and unfortunately some natural gas. Someone didn't get the stove going early enough. Going to fire that guy when I see him!
The temps sitting at 35 this morning with it trending down, more Cherry in the Liberty. I'm hoping this rain changes to snow so I can take care of some trail work.
Well were 69F right now!! No heat last night was 80F christmas day and probably like 76 yesterday. Have been running a bit of AC the last few days!! Some early evening last night and a bit on our side of house thismourning!!!! I dont think I have ever run AC on christmas or after it for that matter in this house! I actually had to tear the AC unit apart yesterday and fix it. Blower is going out . I had to give it s push to start it. I pulled it out and lubed it as I could. Got it going ...for now at least. Good thing I dont need it for heat
About 40 now and mid-40's for high today. Total of 5 fires in the past 4 days - Christmas Eve was near 70 and Christmas day was about 60. Looks like we'll finally be hitting colder temps starting Tuesday - at or below freezing for highs and upper teens to mid 20's for lows. Will actually need to have 3 fires per day. Hauled in about 3 weeks of wood from the barn yesterday - it was the wood that I should have burned during the first 3 weeks of December! Cheers!
How can you have three fires a day? Do the coals not stay hot between fires and really make it on fire? Or you load three times a day? Or it really is three total cold start fires a day?
I heard my furnace kick on just once too this AM. I didn't reload when I should have. All shag, 3 splits, in the quad now, and it's putting out some nice heat.
House was still about 69 when I got up, and lots of coals in the stove. I waited until the IAT dropped a bit, then added a couple Maple splits on the coals. It's 33 OAT right now (which will be our high), and it's supposed to drop to 16 overnight. Might load up with the big guns (Oak) tonight.
About 4 days ago, our Monday night forecast was calling for 3-6" of snow, which went to 4-8" a couple days ago, and as of last night is down to 2-4". Should be interesting to see what we actually get tomorrow. Or boring.
Wow, awesome area for a hike. clemsonfor here is a picture of a couple pieces of the honeysuckle I've been burning.
