Welcome Jim! You've got a pretty decent dealer right in your backyard there if your looking at new chainsaws. I used to live up your way, I'm across the river now but I grew up in the Millbrook area.
Welcome NYJim ........ I'm working at simplifying my life somewhat, burning wood was a good start for me.
Yep, great advice, along with bad jokes and great food. Welcome to FHC! There really is something great about cutting wood, spending time outside, and giving the gas company/ oil co your hard earned $.
Thanks for the warm welcome folks! I am sure I will fit in with the members of this site. I must have been bitten by the wood bug years ago since my version of a perfect day is working on my wood pile with smooth running saw, my small diesel tractor and my wood splitter preferably with my sons. You can never have too much firewood!! I am currently looking at a new Husky 562 of a Stihl 362 saw with a 20" long bar. I am leaning towards the 362 Stihl saw. I have a 1998 Stihl 025 with a 16" long bar and a 1981 Jonsereds 70E with a 20" long bar. The Jonsereds saw cost me more than I could afford at the time but I wanted a pro-quality saw and it has NEVER let me down and runs a strong today as it did new. It has been used to prep 5 to 25 cords of firewood every year since I bought it but has been very well cared for. I am looking for something a little lighter but with decent power (that the excuse I tell everyone but the real reason is I want another pro-quality saw). After I get next seasons wood cut, split and stacked from the current log pile, my 35 year old home-made log splitter will be getting some updates: shelf forward of the wedge to catch the split pieces, raising the top of the I beam to a height of 25" to make it a bit easier on my back and a log lift - log feed table. Can someone please refer me to a thread describing the instructions for posting photos? Many Thanks!! Jim
Welcome to the forum Jim. Looks like you'll fit right in nicely here. To post pictures tis easy. When you are typing to make a post, look at the bottom of that area where you are typing and choose "Upload a File." That will take you to your computer and your pictures file. Just click on the file you want then choose "Open." That will load that file and you'll see it below the posting area. Choose "Thumbnail." That will put the picture into your post. Oh, before choosing thumbnail, make sure the cursor is where you want the picture to show. That's all there is to it. Hope this helps.
Jim, to post photos, in the reply box, see the middle tab under the reply box that says "upload a file"? Click on that, and upload away. One at a time works best, until you turn pro
