Well with this crappy warm weather figured I would clean the flue and cross that off my list. So setup the sooteater and some things to capture the dust.

Wasnt sure what to expect and not sure how good or bad the results are so you all be the judge!

Thats all I got. Most of the white ash is from stuff in the stove and not the flue. Towards the cap is when I got some of the bigger particles come down. Sooteater system was pretty straight forward and easy to use.

One last question. I noticed in the top corners inside my stove these two shiny marks. Anything to worry about?

If I throw a dodgy piece in the back of the stove, my bricks may turn dark for a bit, but the fire takes care of it. Are you burning a bit cool or throwing marginal wood in the back? Is your baffle sitting to the back, or is some start up cold smoke sneaking in behind?

Thanks everyone! It does give a nice bit of relief to me that I am doing it right and keeping my family safe. Very limited fires coming in the next week but hopefully the new year will bring some much needed and desired cold weather my way!

Your sooteater strings look really short. Are they long enough to wack the whole flue?

I did the measuring guide that was included in the instructions. Have a 6 inch flue and cut them a little longer then it called for so I think its good.

I don't think I'd lose any sleep over how it looks. You should see my stove glass..... Colder weather might clean it up anyways, as the same settings will draft harder when it's colder outside.

Looks good. Check the soot eater string length after each use. It doesn't take long to wear them down. Very easy to replace with .095 or larger weed eater line.

    Yes, they wear down.
