Did a little welding on a old Homelite today. I just weld for a hobby and no formal training but just like to keep busy and fix things. I will ship this back to the owner next week. Hope fully it will work out ok and he can get his saw put back together.
Nice work, if my Homelite 540 handle had been metal rather than plastic you might have been able to repair it.
As Roger said, they are used for bucking, mostly in pulp in the South. The bow allows you to cut without bending or leaning over. The narrow height of the bar helps eliminate pinching in the cut. I think Dexter Day has a video of me running one at his GTG.
Roger if Ohio Gregg has another that is a good one. That is about the only GTG I try and make now. 1hr 10mins away. I offer to put you up if you can stand a ole farm house to stay in for the drive to the gtg and after.
