Around here it's 65 or 70 speed limits and in certain areas you do it or look for some blue lights in the rearview. I've been out west on some roads that seemed to not have limits at all. Straight and flat as far as you could see. Middle of nowhere so you speed as you see fit. My kinda roads.

Just to add some fun tid bits I have not had a speeding ticket in 15 years,,,, well until this past June the 6th day I had my new garage puppy (2015 STI). Extremely fast and fun little giddy up. I'm usually in my big 4x4 diesel trucks. The wife was laughing at me and proudly stating "Haven't even had it a week yet, Lol!" At least the KY state trooper didn't catch me when I was into the gas pedal real hard. It ticks me off as I was going with the flow 65 in a 55 MPH and the last of four cars just tooling along heading home from Bardstown, KY. Bourbon Capital of the World BTW. The wife is from there but we live a couple of hours away. Many on her side of the famn damily work for the distillers there.

Well the ticket for 10 MPH over was $143 bucks. The cost break down was a $20 fine for speeding and $123 for court costs which I didn't even do. I took the traffic school which erases the ticket = no lost points and saved a whopping $5 bucks. Traffic school was $15 with the court costs remaining the same. Whata bargain! Just more thankful the 5-0 didn't snag me at well over 100. I have a need for speed. And jumping from planes and helos.

The wife not so much. I did manage to pimp her into a para sail once.

since we hail from the same area...

in the late 80's, i was riding my honda 750 at about 4am from portland to salem.
i was doing variously between 100 and 119 (the bike's max speed as it was geared that way)
i pulled off at the first salem exit and was waiting at the light (like a good law abiding citizen) to turn left, when a cop pulls up the ramp behind me and flashes his lights.
i asked him what was up, and he said "don't give me that, i was back in gervais."

    i was all "oh."

i got rid of the bike shortly after that. i just couldn't ride slow at that time in my life.

*Ha! I just remembered he only got me for 90mph. :D

LOL! I remember a time getting pulled over in South Bend, WA in 1999. My friend and I were trying to make it to Seattle before it got to late to catch up with some friends after we ate at the Jetty Fishery. Crabs were cheap and great there in Coos Bay, OR. So we were hauling some tail in the tune of about 95-100 MPH in a 55 MPH stretch of the rode. Rolling right along suddenly I saw a cop sitting down an embankment off of the side of the rode. Too late.

I was riding the brakes hard and my buddy behind me hit his. Thought we were done and going to jail for doing twice the speed limit. Then the cop said I clocked you at 76 in a 55. Great! Guess he tagged my buddy behind me slowing down fast. Needless to say we played dumb and didn't know the speed limits there being on a ride from KY. He gave us a warning, said slow it down and be careful, and away we went. Pretty cool of him.

In 1999 myself and a friend rode for two months all over the US, dipped into Mexico, and thru Canada. 18,000 mile ride. Great way to see everything. Of course this was when I was young, single, and no kids. 30 at the time. Now I'm lucky to get on one of my bikes for a entire day.

We were also pulled over by a bike cop in San Fran because we needed to go the opposite way so we cut thru a median divider and as soon as we pulled thru. Bam! Cop was right there riding up the rode. We pulled out right in front of him. No kidding. Another warning but really cool dude that gave us some must see things to do on our ride. We BS'ed with him for about 20-30 minutes. We also hit a late night road block in Vancouver and skated thru that without issue. The Canadian Mounted boys thought they had me. Cop asked if I had a class 6 <IIRC. I said, No Sir. Then he started pounding down getting all bad azz and I said Officer we are from KY and I do not know what a class 6 is. Then he did a 180* with the attitude and thought it was cool we had on shoes being from Tucky an all and on a long riding 'holiday.' Guess the riding boots and KY tags and license worked out alright, Eeh....

So it's cold here today but very sunny so Im planning on busting up some wood. No riding but that's what's up today.

:mad:geez, you guys! My last ticket (knock wood), was in 1986, outside of Casper, WY, near Hells Half Acre. posted limit there in those days was 55 mph. It was about 5 am, I was going to work in the oil patch. County Mounty clocked me doing 61 mph, and wrote me a darn ticket for it! $15! He was a nice guy and all, but I hear these stories, and they just pi$$ me off!
Ex-wife had the heaviest foot around, she always got out of tickets. She would simply wait until she got pulled over, open the window, and as the cop came up, she would say to the kids: "don't worry, guys, the nice policeman is here to help us...."....geez.....always worked for her.....always. And I get a ticket for going 6 mph over the speed limit at 5 am, no traffic.....go figure!

WWW had 4 warnings and 1 ticket while commuting from Colorado to Wy the first couple years. All for +/- 5 miles over the limit. He has not been pulled over once since he got WY plates....... The one ticket? Near Casper too!

Hey Clean Fire, notice anything different when looking from the basement door?

Yep, used to be a wall there with the old built in workbench, base cabinet and storage cabinet. Thursday and Friday nights, after work, I buckled down and tore it all out. Took some time as I had to fit everything in the SUV to take to the dump, so I was not just hacking and slashing. Plus I recycle as much of the metal nails/scres etc as I can get out. Saves the town money by throwing it in the metal dumpster instead of the demo dumpster - and saves me money since I am charged by weight to throw stuff in the demo dumpster. Oh yeah, and any "clean" wood, I can throw in the brush pile for free too.

Amazing to look from the washer to that corner of the basement

It really hit me when I walked down the stairs this morning and could see the door to the garage! If you look at the concrete, you can see the discolored areas where everything used to be. The wall ran to a doorway beside the stairs and workbench/cabinetry were on the outside of the wall.

That shelf unit was inside the storage cabinet and it was a challenge to get it out in one piece. It obviously used to set on the floor as there is a lot of water damage from the lowest shelf down (and residual damage between the two lower shelves). When I started the demo, I had no idea that shelving unit was in there. The unit rested on 12" wide boards, so it was, in total, 81" tall with two sets of doors, another small unit built on the left side of it and then a base cabinet built into it behind, with counter attached and projecting several feet to the wall beside the door- arrgghh, I wish I had pictures of before. The top of the cabinet was attached to the beam that can be seen in the picture, but next to the door from the stairs.

Anyway, I'm hoping to recondition the shelves as the wood is amazing, being of 12"-16" wide planks. The back is two rough cut planks; 16" and 14.5". The sides and shelves are 12" sanded planks. It is a real shame about the rot and damage to the bottom, but if I cut off between the two bottom shelves, perhaps I can sand the rest down and give it new life. It is still very sturdy and well made, so I have to try anyway.

Out here the government makes a fortune out of speeding. So there cameras and cops everywhere. 4 mph over the limit gets you a $250 fine. 10 mph over gets you 3 demerit points (max of 12 and you lose your licence and a $350 fine. 20 mph over is instant disqualification and your car is impounded for a month. Probably a 1000 bucks to get it and your licence back in 6 months. Not sure, don't want to find out.
Our open road limit is generally 60 mph, interstate stretches of 65 and in the Northern Territory is 80. They have a few unlimited sections where you need to drive fast to stop falling asleep from boredom.
In the 90s the NT had a Cannonball run from Darwin to Alice Springs (900 miles) to promote the NT and their liberal speed limits. There was only one after 2 Japanese in a Ferrari F40 crashed killing a total of 4.
Goes to show that supercar racing by rich kids on public road aint real smart.

If it is any consolation the ticket I got in 2000 was for 5 MPH over. Cop pulled me over and asked if I knew why. Nope! He asked if I knew how fast I was going and I said yes, 30 MPH. He said the speed limit is 25. So I scored a $90 ticket. I also did traffic school on that one. It was on a regular residential street that is used often but I did not live in that area so I was clueless on the limit and thought I was playing it safe. No signs posted anywhere either so he quoted city ordinances everyone should know. Yeah, OK....... I read up on those for everywhere. It was nowhere near a school zone or anything.

I want to report my stove's status. I opened it up today, just to ck inside. It has been a month since I last opened it. I checked the burn pot, no speed bump. I've been running it on the stat. Burning Fireside from HD. Stove didn't need any attention. Last year, I didn't use the stat. Didn't like the big flame at start up, but now I don't mind it. I think that big heat keeps the speed bump from building up.

Now I feel so ashamed! I haven't bothered to even look at my heap. Except fill the hopper once every few days.

I did hit a speed bump in the walmart lot a little to quick today. Does that count?

WWW scrapes the burn pot a couple times a week, we often have speed bumps. It seems to light faster after scraping.

Oh, yeah - just a little bit !

Looks totally different than last time I saw it - Excellent - job !

LOTS of extra space for the jacuzzi, pool table, full length bar, plus 'smoothie' (aka cases of Vodka) and Pellet storage to boot!

Given the amount of time and care you took to preserve it during the demo, that shelving unit is definitely worth saving.

So what ch'ya gonna do with all that space? Workshop? Laundry Room?

^probably one of the better possible results given the conditions.
you lived to tell the tale. :)
