It is what it is Kimberly. I find threads like this a fascinating look into the psychological thinking and behavior of humans living under different rules and laws. These sorts of discussion about guns come out in any type of forum as soon as you mention the words "personal protection".
About the exact same time this thread was opened I was involved in a similar thread in a water gardening forum where some of the American ladies began proudly posting picture of themselves in front of their water gardens posing with their favorite handguns.
But what I find most intriguing is the radically different thinking between Canadians an American who sometimes live only a few mile from one another. As a rule, the Canadian thinking is they are glad that handguns are so restricted and that the general public is not legally allowed to carry them, and feel that the less there are of them out there the more secure they are. Whereas the majority of Americans are happy and proud that they can legaly pack handguns and believe the only way to feel truly secure is when everybody is well armed. Obviously not every Canadian is for their handgun restrictions, nor is every American in favor of their handgun freedoms, but it's intriguing to see how a simple rule of law affects the thinking of the majority of the population who are separated by nothing more than a line drawn in the sand.

I thought the line drawn in the sand was at the southern border? Usually this time of year the line drawn at the north is in the snow.

It would be an interesting thread to see the different view points on this.

Lumber-Jack, well said .. Also find it interesting many who feel need weapons in woods, when describing locations.. higher population areas are concerned about people and us country folks (myself included) are more concerned about wild life.. People I generally see are kids 8 to 16 on ATV.. I know them.. they come because curious want to help...

For me, I like the S&W Governor when I'm in the woods. It's good for all occasions. Seeing way too many rattlesnakes around our area.
    I also carry 24/7. Usually a Kimber 45 ultra.

It's like everything else we have for protection
Do you plan on having a fire in your kitchen? No...But you have a fire extinguisher
Do you plan on cutting yourself with a chainsaw? No...But you wear chaps
You save money for if/when you get injured or laid off.
You can food or stock up the pantry in case there is a storm. Or worse...
I put in a wood stove for an alternative heat source in case of power outages...

Bottom line is, its a tool, just in case.

Exactly... here's some from my backyard.....

I couldn't find any pics of mama or papa, but they're around. Don't get me wrong, I know that even black bears can be dangerous, but they do frighten off pretty easy. I just try to be mindful when I walk out the back door, and keep away from any little ones because I'm sure mom is around keeping an eye on them.

Even though I like venison, this guy's safe in my backyard....

We are going to the star wars movie in a couple of hours. I feel the Walther is more needed for that than just about any other situation these days. Will also be wearing my "Dad vest" as the old lady calls my utility vest.

Sand, snow, whatever,,, lol The truth is there isn't really even any visible line, we all just have to pretend it's there. ;)

However, there doesn't seem to be any pretending with your Southern line in the sand. :picard:

I'm going to see it tomorrow night with my wife, she bought the tickets for my birthday this month...

And HELL yea, movie theaters are a MUST CARRY place for me. I had a discussion we it a a friend who is an ODAR judge about this situation last week. Even if you don't have a good shot at the active shooter a round or two into the ceiling might be enough to make him pause and give you time to do whatever needs to be done.... flee, rescue, help wounded, or get closer to take a good shot....

He disagreed with all of it, including the right to carry...

The odds of you needing that gun are really really high but if it makes you feel better thats a plus, some of the people carrying guns and opening fire in a public place could be a problem.
In one of the movie theater shoot outs there were a couple of people carrying but could not come close to getting a open shot.

Before anyone jumps down my throat I have a concealed carry license and own several guns.

Your safe regardless, this is just a good conversation where we can all learn and be better people by hearing other viewpoints.

I think the chances of getting hit by lightning are higher so what do you have for that? LOL

My mom has been struck by lightning, so it's not out of the realm of possibility.
