I use a 3 foot piece of 6 gauge electrical ground wire I dug out of the scrap bin at work. I never thought of fraying the end like ivanhoe mentioned. I just fish it back behind the wall and go to town.

When I first got my furnace I had the same problems. I thought I had it clean. Dex and several other members at 'the other site', who are now members here, insisted it wasn't. They were right. I now snake the wire behind the back wall once in the spring/fall and once halfway through the season, or roughly every couple tons.

Wow, your stove fires up way quicker than mine. As I mentioned in an earlier post mine takes just under 10 min to fire. And thanks. Looking forward to the video.

And yes, was implying testing with smoke outside passed over sealed areas. I'll give the dollar bill test a go on the ash pan though. I have nothing to loose at this point.

Right on. I really thought mine was clean as well and it wasn't. So I am glad people here kept after me to clean it again, and when I get home I'm going to get a piece of cable, fray it and give it a go for a 4th time to make sure all the crap it beat out from the back panel!

Wow, that flame is WAY more intense than my unit. What heat setting was your unit on when filming this video? I appreciate you taking this video and posting it for me.

This was Start up (I started the vid right after ignition). They all Starr and stabilize on level 5.

The flame gets a little bigger than that and takes up the whole bottom of the pot before it settles into heat level 3. But you can see how it's all pushing to the left.

And you can see how the embers are being pulled down in front of the glass. A lot of air gets pulled down rather than up, but the heat goes up and that's what matters the most.

Wow, I can't believe how much different the flame looks on the newer pots. Mine has the same intensity, but an entirely different shape.

I still haven't got an OAK hooked up, but I will here in the next few days... I literally JUST started the stove for the first time, thus reminding me to return to the forum! Ha. By the way, I do have an HRV installed, Although I wasn't sure just how much affect that would have on my stove since it is outputting the same amount of air as it is intaking.

As far as fuel, last year I burnt straight wheat. I didn't like how messy it made the pot (sticky green stuff all over) so this year I am going to step over to a 50% wheat/pellet mix. I landed some heartlands when they were down to $140/ton this summer so it shouldn't up my cost too much.

edit; only Canwicks hwd in Peterboro, Okies in Lindsay

Hi Zach, thanks for chiming in on the thread. Neat to hear about you burning wheat in your stove. I'm interested in hearing how you make out burning s pellet wheat mix.

HAHA Yeah no kidding eh, I'd hate to be useful at work. Might get me in trouble!

Darn, that's too bad. I wouldn't mind trying some Oakies.

I've put some Oakies in the Fahrenheit last night since I was starting off with a clean stove. I got a meat thermometer in the duct so I will take a pic of the temps.

Yeah. Might go to Lindsay and grab a few bags to try them. Just out of curiosity.

Sweet. Thanks for the pic. So you are getting about 120F well up the ducting from your stove then?

    Hey Dex,

Do you recall what your readings were when you set your stove up? Below is what Matt quoted me.

With a freshly cleaned exhaust system,
    Cold: 2100-2200FPM (Feet Per Minute)
Hot: 1800-2000FPM (any more than a 300FPM drop from cold to hot would indicate a weak exhaust blower.

Set point on furnace is medium 3. which is like high 2 if it makes any sense! Usually furnace goes on/off on other pellets but seems to stay on all the time, must be burning hotter?

Do you have a fan limit switch on your unit ? I would think so but unfamiliar with older units.
What are the 2 points set to? The first OFF and middle which is ON, the last on the right should be 200 degrees from factory.

Just curious, what does everyone have there's adjusted to?
Mine is set off at 90 degrees , ON at 120 degrees.

It was set off at 80 degrees but felt chill the air coming out at end of run.
