Should I have the dealer make a service call to perform a draft test on my pellet stove. I'm new to pellet stoves (last year). I changed the adjustments myself and didnt see a change with the burn pattern, the stove came set on high, turned all the way to the right.

well, honest answer is maybe. In fact, the only adjustment the dealer can make is to the voltage to the combustion blower (via the potentiometer on the circuit board). This adjustment can only be accurately made with a draft meter (and a DDM would tell the tech what the voltage actually is to the fan).....without that, any adjustments you make, you are doing blind. Factory setting (which has now been changed), is generally fine. When we do an install, we take a draft reading, adjust as necessary, and record the draft reading of the new stove in the owners' manual. That way, if there is a stove issue at a later date, all the tech has to do is hook up the draft meter and compare readings....if they have change significantly, its usually a cleaning issue (about 80% of the time). Otherwise, could be a intake blockage or even a combustion fan issue.

You could do it yourself. Tools are going to be $$$, But still could be cheaper than a service call. You can check the volts with a simple clamp on meter. And the draft with a magnihelic gauge. I prefer to do my own DIY. But if your not as frugal or handy? Calling in a tech would be the way to go.

eBay is where I got my gauge and Radio shack had a decent meter reasonable.

The famous "Loaded Question". Well I have used it 1 1/2 years now so too late before first fire, I recorded the setting before moving it and it was turned whole way to the right and seems to be operating well. Its heating my 2000 sq ft home. Thanks for infor..

good to hear, HH! Too many folks fumble with settings, dip switches, then give up and call the techs.....we have to fix the changes first.....but, I am all for folks doing their own work!
