Being a bona fide pirate I drive a diesel Volkswagen. Well I had a 2010 Passat 125TDI but traded it as it was so boring and never did any weird chit (I have driven Saabs for years, still have a rag top for the weekends. Anyone who has Saabs will know that if bits aren't routinely falling off something is seriously wrong. No.1 son lost our only key. Car sat at the local railway station for 4 weeks while new keys and computer were procured. Didn't have to worry about it getting stolen as they are uncrackable, I know we tried everything. Cost $1,500, about 1/2 the value of the car on a good day.)
So replaced the Passat with a Audi A3 tdi, just a snooty VW really. Great little car except for the ridiculous 18" wheels. Rides like a roller skate and the tires are mega expensive and last about 10,00 miles. So we get a set of old 15" Audi wheels, spray them matt black (to go with the pirate theme) put on a set of el cheapo high aspect tyres to get the circumference right and she rides like a Caddy and gets 40,000 miles to a set. Low profile tires are just plain stooopid.

You know how when cruise control first come out and you never want to go back? Well the adaptive cruise and lane keep assist assistance is da new bomb! Wont be steppin back from that on my high mileage driver. Will need a new pickup soon, the only one with the goodies is the Ford, looks like I will be back to the blue oval soon.

With the Audi we didn't want the dicky stereo and baby seal leather inserts so we had to get a Audi fleet car as no one ticks the safety options before the namby pamby junk. People are lemmings, won't spring for the safety gear but at least you can set your seat position electrically as you smack into the roo.....

Never liked cruise. Since 2000 I've had 3 vehicles and one motorcycle with cruise that I always used once to make sure it worked, then never again (actually, I don't think I used it on the bike - and don't care to figure it out). Now that I have the Explorer, which is an automatic (driven standard since 1987), I use the cruise while on the highway since I really can't get a sense of how fast I'm driving without constantly looking at the gauge; I'll be cruising along at 75, then suddenly find myself holding up traffic going 60. I'm not on the highway much and I still dislike cruise, but it is handy in that case.

You'll get used to it, and then you'll realize it's the best thing since sliced bread......especially on those infrequent long trips. You arrive much more refreshed not having to constantly wonder & look at the speedo. Set it for about 5-6 MPH over speed limit, and no worries about the PoPo pulling you over when you're right foot suddenly has you going 10-15 MPH over......peace of mind, and better gas mileage too.

one thing i love about living here is how there is almost no traffic on the freeway.
i can often be driving and literally not see another car ahead or behind me even when that distance is miles in either direction.
i love cruise control, and this is a perfect area for it.

    Yesterday sucked.
Rain coming down by the metric buttload, and we still had to unload half a dumpster of shells.

Even in the barn it was still cold.

    BUTTTTTTTTTTTTTT, we goterdone.
The worst season ever for getting the fuel in for the stoves.
The weather has been horrible and the time constraints tight, plus being a bit sick the past week as well did not help.

Ahhhh well, next year will be better.
Looking into getting a "Flex Auger" installed in the dumpster to greatly improve the unloading process.

The little drop gate was a real plus, but it still requires a lot of manual labor.

    Yeah, it's done.

Well I got one taken care of, while checking our checking account I noticed there was a pending deposit that is exactly equal to what was due me because of the defined benefit plan and it being 4 months past my retirement date. So that is one pension that is paying out. Still awaiting two others one mine and the other the for the boss.
