I stumbled across this a little bit ago. I'm no logger and I don't always cut the prettiest notch when felling so I thought this guy was pretty impressive and very efficient. And the music is pretty good too!!
I hope he was only cutting for firewood. He has a bunch of pulled fiber on every stump. If the wedge was cut at 70 degrees or more he'd save a lot more timber. Good choice of music though!
Interesting to watch. He definitely favors the top of his bar on a back cut and is using thinner hinges than I would, but it seems to work for him.
Yeah they only make that bar in 20" and 24" and apparently is was supposed to be some kind of review....although he never said anything about it. I thought he handled that saw pretty dang good though. Agree or disagree with technique (because I don't know much better) he is efficient and knows his way about those trees with a saw.
In wood that size I'm pretty similar. There's a lot to learn in that video. An old time feller taught me much the same when I first started out. Minus all the top bar action of course.
I realize English isn't your 1st language so I will give you the benefit of the doubt. I made good money for years felling in my 20s. I dont consider myself a pro anymore because i dont do it anymore. There is more than 1 way to skin a cat and to each his own. I don't recall saying he wasn't a pro. In fact I said there was a lot to learn in the vid. I prefer not to top bar so much, but it's personal preference and not a fault with his technique.
I don't know what undercuts are. But a lot of the way he is doing it would prevent barber chairs. But I agree and prefer a wider more angled face/ wedge cut. Unless I am wanting a hop of the stump . But I only cut wood for fun and he dropped 3 months of my felling in that one video.
