How about putting that ceramic blanket in with some pieces of steel cut just small enough to fit through the flue hole, placed on top of the blanket...to keep things in place and give it some "substance". Maybe firebrick instead of steel? They are cheap enough...wouldn't warp...
Also, I wouldn't bother replacing the firebrick if it is just because of a crack, a chunk missing or falling out, yes, but just a crack, no.

Looking at the pics again...maybe lay in some steel, then blanket, then more steel on top to hold the blanket in place. Also, if there is not enough bracket there to hold things up/in place, you could do like the guys do with the old smoke dragons, stand firebrick in the corners to set a baffle on...following me?

May not want to compress blanket, thus diminishing its insulative properties, just a thought. But then again- it could become more like the fiberboard of other stove designs? This blanket I have is sweet.
Can't mail it out til I know if it's wanted.

And don't want you to mail it out if it won't be used. I am just uncertain at the moment which way to turn. I made some progress in getting the support bracket made for the chimney but dark won out. I had to clean everything up because it is going to be raining tomorrow. I pulled the muscle in my back/side and it has been hurting for days, going up and down the ladder to the scaffolding and twisting and turning has not helped it any.
