Well as of right now, I am 1 ton short of what I normally burn in 1 year. If stays warm like it has, I may not even need them. But, better to get them and just carry them over to next year. I refuse to pay Lowe's $299 a ton for chit pellets and TSC is carrying there brands bagged by different company's. Now I did try some TSC bagged by Lignetic, they were ok, but didn't care for the sandy, gritty, glass like feeling of the burnt ash. So I was out and about today looking for some other brands to try. I came across a farm supply place about 1/2 hour from me, so I stopped in to see if they carried any pellets. Some farm supplies do carry pellets and this place did. They carried Barefoot ($5.99 a bag), Pennwood ($5.69 a bag), Freedom (Rebagged Hamers, $5.69 a bag), and Lignetic ($5.69 a bag). The Lignetic where the white bag, w/green lettering. I grabbed (2) bags of each to test burn, except Lignetic, since I already tried them in the TSC bags, to see which ones I like, so I can buy another ton. I posted pictures below of the (3) brands I found today and bought to test.
Hey titan...I've burned the Penwood's before. Pretty good pellet from a flooring company right here in PA. I'd be curious how those Freedom'e burn, I didn't care too much for the Barefoot.
Intrested to hear how the barefoots burn for you. Last years batch didnt work out to well for me. They just wouldnt burn. Overflowed out of the burn pot no matter what I tried
Interesting! Because we both have the same stove. Have to keep a eye on that. How did the Turman burn for you in your stove. Used them years ago in a Englander, and they did real well. Haven't tried any in the Ashley yet. A buddy of mine has a Harman and last year he had issues with them. Something about to long of pellet here and there, and it would shut the stove down by either starving, jamming, or bridging of pellets in hopper.
The Freedom's, I was told by sales employee at this farm store, were rebagged by Hamer's. He told me that they were there biggest saler. Ran the UPC number when I got home and indeed that did come back as a Hamer product. I opened the bag her at home, for I clean my pellets before putting them in the stove, and they carry that Hamer appearance. They have that nice shorter length size (3/8" to 1" length) to them and have that color & smell of a Hamer pellet. I will let you know how they burn. I have burnt Hamer's thru my stove before and never had any issues. I'm not expecting any issues with these either, but you never really know for sure (knock on wood).
Just looking thru the pellet rating review board and didn't see any test results for the Pennwoods from you. Did you ever get to run a review/test on them.
I thought I did before we had the review section but I can't seem to find it now. I remember the last time I got the Pennwood's they were a bit longer in size than when I previously burned them. I believe the local stove shop still carries them, I'll have to swing by and grab a couple bags.
I remember you chatting about them, But don't remember seeing the test. Could it have been on the start up forum?
Steve , Wood Heat carries them according to their web site , they also list Bridgewell Softies but only at the main store in Quakertown.
Oh man, I know that feeling all too often. Especially happens when I on the phone trying to explain something.
Maybe If I was working I'd be happy to grab a few bags Q-town store is 15 min from the office and the 248 store is on the way home .
