Eight years ago WE were told that our Guns would be taken away! Four years ago We were told that our Guns would be taken away! Now We are told that our Guns and Ammo will be taken away! I would be interested in knowing how many of us have had guns actually taken! All We Have To Fear is Fear ITSELF!
I think if we have another Democratic President as well as both houses of Congress controlled by Democrats, we'll see some sort of gun laws. First will probably be another law like the 1996 assault rifle and high capacity mag ban. Only this time it won't have a 10 year shelf life. Then the next time the Democrats control the White House and Congress, it'll be something else, maybe all semi-auto guns that accept a magazine will be illegal to manufacture. While I know that my guns and ammo won't be taken away tomorrow, that doesn't mean I don't worry not being able to buy what I want 10 years from now, and my guns being taken away 40 years from how. That's why I support every battle the NRA fights for me today, because we all know that saying about giving an inch....
Less than 50% of funds that go to the NRA are by membership ! I was a member of the NRA until I discovered just how much of the NRA funds come from the Manufacturers! I like to have my voice heard , not by billionaire companies telling me what they want me to hear, but by reason! I own guns and want to protect my rights, but not at the expense of lives! There are alternatives that would help, that all of us can agree on. Such as , allowing psychologists to alert law enforcement to a person that should not be allowed to own a firearm. We need to be the ones who say that certain people should not have guns! Remember, if you want to protect your rights, then you must protect the rights of others! Including those that don"t support your Ideologies!
If you feel the NRA is "bought", look into Gun Owners of America. They are smaller with less clout, but they represent my beliefs better than the NRA. I'm a member of both.
Thanks, it might be something that would be worth looking into. I would like to belong to an organization that is more into the grass roots of hunting , than guns themselves.
I just looked into The Gun Owners of America and I couldn't get past the Cover Page to tell me that it is not the place for me. Same old song( we are coming to take your guns away) Thanks though !
I'll admit they both have a habit of using scare tactics to try to get more money and build their member base. But at the same time, I firmly believe that if it wasn't for the NRA and GOA, there'd be a LOT more gun laws on the books. Probably waiting periods before buying and possibly licenses just to own guns. And probably outright bans on even more types of firearms that can be manufactured and sold.
speaks for itself ,i was shown this but have no idea if its true . Sipsey Street Irregulars: And so it begins. Governor Cuomo feels froggy, SAFE Act enforcement thugs rounding up "assault weapons." Someone is going to get shot and the civil war will commence. ( i do remember that picture/scene from red dawn )
I'm not against having to get a background check for private sales. The gun shows here in Ohio could have a booth set up just for that purpose. I've seen too many guns change hands outside of our gun shows here. As a gun owner, I wouldn't want my gun sale going to the wrong people. If my car is stolen, they may be able to recover it through it's VIN number, if my gun is stolen , It's Tuff stuff! Don't get me wrong , I'm not for all gun control, but there are things that could make things safer, although it might be a little more inconvenient , it might save the life of one of loved ones.
A lot of states have various laws like that. But (luckily) the Federal Government hasn't make much headway in that direction.
Honestly, I don't see how any of that saves lives. Criminals (and terrorists) will continue to buy their guns in back alley deals. Psycho kids will be able to buy guns legally before they are determined to be crazy, or just borrow their parent's firearms. And if my guns are stolen (and I already keep a picture and the serial number of each of my firearms) I'm sure that they will never be bought/sold through any place that would require a background check so they would pretty much be lost forever regardless. And the kicker, California basically has "universal background checks" and it hasn't seemed to stop anything.
It is not just you. They want attention. Easiest way to get that is to shoot a bunch of defensless sheep in a pen. (Gfz, or large group in a place with metal detectors ie concerts). You don't ever hear of them walking into a cabelas and opening fire cuz chances are, half the customers are armed and their "mission" will be compromised.
A bullet doesn't discriminate friendly fire from foe. I hope that one of my loved ones is not harmed by a person with a gun firing indiscriminately at a perceived threat. panic can set in quickly and an untrained person could do a lot of harm.
there have been many good points made in the last few posts, you can call the nra and ask to be removed from the mailings and calls and ask to receive the magazine only ,i did it and it works ,we never answer the phone anyway unless we know who it is ,all i can say is there is strength in numbers, they may not be perfect but i believe they do a lot of good aside from anything political ,junior programs ,eddie eagle ,police training ,nation competitions ,unarmed self defense classes ,when the talking heads on tv talk about the need for a gun safety program / group ,they should be told we have had one since 1871, the nra ,the legislative arm the nra/ila was formed in the 1970s ,that division is the one folks may have some disagreement with ,thank you all for reading this .
While I understand what you mean about an untrained person, I have yet to hear of a case where a CCW holder hurt an innocent bystander. The same can not be said about the police, who are supposedly "trained".
