Currently Pro Pellets, but Last years Somersets are on deck. Might hit 30 tomorrow before the bottom falls out early Sunday.

When high temps are going to be around 0, you better have the good stuff close by. :)

Somersets. Its f'in cold here. Never saw it this cold in my neck o the woods. Stove on #4 which I never had to use to keep temps up before. 72F in the warmest rooms and 65F in the furthest away. No other heat source running right now. I'm happy. So is Kimba.

-8°F with wind chill in the -20's. Temp is 74° in the shack. Definitely chewed through some pellets last night! Approximately 4.58 lbs/hr.

I had chow in, They did OK, But the stove was running on hi and not cycling to low. The temp was holding, But not rising. So I switch to cubies around 6 PM. I almost raised the heat level to 4. But the extra umph from the cubies had the beast cycling by bed time. A good test of the space heater that's not supposed to heat my whole house! And plenty of room to spare.

No wood/oil/electric assistance needed and not having to go above the medium heat level. Priceless!!

My level three and yours seems to be about the same. That is where I leave mine in hi/lo. Thermostat was still cycling so no need to go to four. I did notice that my Rutland Wood Stove gauge I have on the far side of my stove, right in front of my last heat exchanger tube was almost 300 this morning, normally it stays around 200.....so it must have been cranking overnight.

I tweeked the swing down to 1° and didn't have as much setback over night. I kept it at 72°F for the overnight temp. So it took less run time to recover to the AM 74°F setting. She worked pretty had all night. I'll be changing the swing back to 1 1/2° and the setback to 68°F for the overnight temp. Should save some fuel and reduce the pounds per hour average.

My idle rate is like 1.8 pph. And I have seen as much as 5 pph depending on the pellet for medium. She'll eat closer to 8 pph on full blast high.

I broke down and bought 10 bags of La Cretes. -14 this AM. Burned 4 bags in the last 2 days plus 2 bags of FSU in the PDVC in the basement. Noticeable difference between the La Cretes and FSU. Cold run the Harman 1 to 1.5 heat settings lower with the La Crete. I may have to buy a ton of these next year.

Those La Crete's are a very nice pellet. I was very impressed by them. My new favorite SPF pellet!

    Pricey, though. $298/ton.

All the good stuff seems to be near $300/ton. La Crete's are $275 locally. But I still live by the boxstore brands, Just splurge for the good stuff when its cold out. I still have a ton of Hamers and 3/4 ton Cubex that handle the coldest I have seen so far. And I use them sparingly!!!

Let me rephrase, I'm too cheap to live with $300+ a ton pellets so I frugal my way through the season. The reason I bought a stove that will literally burn anything I toss in. I let my wallet be the picky one and not my stove! ;)

Or I gotta go back to doing this to keep warm! :tree: :axe:(hey-we need a stacking smiley! :p) And I'd rather do this instead! :drunk:

Yeah the box stuff is nice but too pricey. I may forgo the good stuff next season and just buy from the box stores.....saving 70-80 a ton sounds pretty good. This is one reason why I left the Chow in for this cold snap.

I am too, but at -14 the Harman was working. The La Cretes made it a lot easier to keep the place warm. First time I had ever put anything but a big box pellet in it in 5 years. The good thing is my dealers sell them by the bag for the same price as a ton, so I can buy them as I need them unless I can find a better deal on a ton elsewhere.
