Well I went and done it. I still aint sure about this truck but for $2600 I think I can get my $$ back if I don't like it. 96 Ford F150 XLT 4X4, 165000 miles. Owner replaced almost everything that could wear out in the last couple years so I don't have to worry bout most of that stuff. It's had some half azzed body work on the rust but is pretty good almost above average for it's age and being an Iowa truck. And someone said something about the 5 liter V8 in these things? Yep, what a woofer. Oh well, I aint in no hurry to get any where any how. This is the first Ford I have ever bought for personal use. Hope I don't regret it.
Looks pretty clean from here. You don't come across too many trucks that age from Michigan, that are that clean.
F150 huh? Well, I guess it will pack a little wood, but to be a real "wood truck" it should be at least an F250. At least it's a 4x4.
For the real work days I got that covered pretty nicely. It's just hard to get this rig into some spots sometimes.
Good looking truck for the money. Do they spread much salt on the roads out your way Butcher ? Round here they not only spread salt but pre spray the highways with some kind of metal eating mixture crap.
Let me put it this way. Driving on paved roads in Iowa in the winter is like hydroplanein a veehickle across the Dead Sea. And then there are those who live out in the sticks that don't want dust from the gravel roads so they have their little piece of road in front of their homes treated with calcium chloride. Me? I don't mind dust and dirt and iffn the roads are to iced up I stay home or drive a little slower.
The 5.0 is a great motor. Solid dependable, and more than enough power. You'll be happy with it. I see a manual transfer case selector and I think I see manual lock hubs too? Gooder stuff.
Looks in pretty decent shape! I have a 95 F150 4x4 super cab with the 5.0 V8, not quite as nice as that one condition wise. Like Horkn said, that is a good reliable engine but not gonna win any drag races with it. Mine has a 3:43(IIRC) gear and the 31x10.50x15 tires make it all the more gutless...but, it has done everything that I have asked of it. I look at the bright side, I haven't got any speedin tickets in it! If it has rust underneath then be prepared to replace all the spring mounts, front and rear. The fronts are available from ford ($100 ea) and the rears can be had aftermarket for $30 or so each. Not that bad of a job really, burn the rivets off and then hang the new mounts with grade 8 bolts, hardened washers, and locknuts
In my neck of the woods you stole it! a 10 year old truck with 100,000 is 10 grand there are no 20 year old trucks that look that nice... that are daily drivers.. here as is on a lot 6 grand and it would be gone 1 day..
The lectric hub locks went to chit so the guy put on Warn LO's on it. Fine with me. Already been done by the previous owner as far as spring mounts, all U joints, Brake rotors and drums. To many things to mention. Only thing is that the AC don't work. Compressor let all the smoke out. Could be a 5 hundered dollar bill to fix come spring. I'm gonna have the tranny flushed and serviced yet cuz I think it needs it .
Not too hard to fix. Power is easy and cheap on the 5.0L, just be aware that the truck 5.0 has a few differences from the Mustang/Explorer 5.0 HO.
