I think it was this past week where I had read someones post of how they have been banned or kicked off of different forums. I've wondered about this and have come up with the question of just what did you do to get banned? When it gets to the point of disagreeing with the forum's mods or bylaws (so to speak), why wouldn't you just quit the forum? I can understand if no one wants to answer.
I believe they call it human nature and their right to pursue..........................The internet by design, allows folks a level of anonymity which in turns allows them to perform at levels they would never consider if their true identity was exposed.
Nothing of the sort for me, on hearth I was in two heated threads simultaneously. One was a member who found a brand new stihl 372? On the site of the road, bragging all the while. I encouraged him to use all platforms available to find the rightful owner. When he refused I used choice words and berated him.... I would have done the same in person. My feeling was that some poor guy, maybe a tree guy, just spent a weeks wages on a tool that some other guy found. IF the finder tried to locate the rightful owner I would have had no beef. I would be willing to bet the saw had a shop tag on it.... couldn't have been hard to find the rightful owner. The other thread was cycle related, I ride, ALOT. I was arguing with a mod in an offtopic, politics allowed thread, that training can never make beer and bikes ok..... ultimately the mod won and had me tossed.
I think you may have been reading one of my posts... i was talking about a member I miss talking to from hearth.
I think I remember that post about the found chain saw. Must've been at least a couple years ago? Agree on the drinking and driving.
Having been on many forums, and a moderator/administrator on one of them, I can say that I've seen members pretty much ask to be booted, as well as mods/ admins being way out of line and having to have been booted by votes from club members or the rest of the staff. In the cases of a moderator/ admin getting booted, the offending people booted up to dozens of people that mostly didn't deserve to be booted. Whether it be by baiting, or just pure wrong doing by the mod, out all comes out eventually. People just need to treat others how they would want to be treated and there would be less problems. That goes beyond forums....
Ain't that the truth! I help moderate a couple forums too. Some folks will just come with guns blazing. They shoot their mouths off about things they know nothing about and when someone calls them out on it, they berate that person mercilessly. It's actually kinda comical sometimes watching the troll make a fool o himself. But then trolls don't really care. I was never booted from a forum but I once had a guy block me from commenting on his YouTube page. He was spreading a rumor that Wal-Mart was pulling from the shelves and suspending all ammo sales. This was right after Sandy Hook. I posted a link to a WM spokesperson telling people that there was no true to that rumor. But this guy seemed to have quite a following and they were all quick to rip me a new one.
I used to think that it was the anonymity of the internet that made people become azzhats on the internet. But then, I was on a local forum of motorcycle riders, and we all saw each other just about every weekend riding. The mods had one rule, which was that there were no rules. We had several VERY heated discussions on politics and religions. The mods never shut the threads down, or edited posts, or banned anyone. And there was still name calling and the sort that you see on a lot of forums, but when we'd get together in person things were always fine and friendly. After seeing that, I'm pretty much against any type of moderating except in extreme cases. A lot of us came from that site that rhymes with darth, and the mods there were some of the most power hungry I've seen on any forum. I'd say the success of this place is largely due to their hatred towards opposing ideas.
I think "some" sites are more concerned with actually becoming a money maker for the owner. That changes things from a group of friends with shared interests.
I'm usually one to find positive somehow and I can say assuredly this place would not be half what it is today if it weren't from negative past experience. Rock on FHC.
Tea Party? Where? When? I didn't get invited? Was there alcohol in the tea? What flavors were the tea? SAVES!?
I'm not sure what the flavor of the tea was, but it was delicious! Independence usually is. You being member 31 and me being member 11, I think we were both there. We have strong roots!
