think first quads (suzukis - 81) were all 2wd. Then a few years and 4WD came big time.

Yep! We got a 125 in 82 and ran it long and hard up here. Dragged parts of over 40 moose out of the rough back country over 15 years with it. Lot's of deer too but they are easy. Front Q of moose on the front rack and hind on the seat and me on top of the hind. Total over 600 lbs and away we go in below low. Some took 24 hours to get out and it was in real rough going. Gave it away to a friend who fixed it up for his young grandson and last I heard - still going.

When we got our "Trike" in '83 we called 4 wheelers "quads" and yeah- they were all 2WD... I also remember when kits came out to convert 250R's and 250 Tecate's from trikes to 4 wheelers.

Yey for Basod! Maybe they shipped them here first. We called everything a Quad back in the day. I've been called worse!

    Kinda, sorta.
Honda started it all with the 90cc 3 wheeler in the 70s, they called them ATCs (all terrain cycle). When Suzuki came out with the 4 wheel versions in the 80s they called 'em Quadrunner/Quadracer, etc, before long they became known affectionately as just plain quads, then that name just stuck for other brands of 4 wheelers too. It seems that over time all brands of 3 and 4 wheelers came to be referred to generically by many people as ATVs.

But back on topic, mine is a pic of a curious crow investigating his chances of acquiring snacks from me at the San Antonio TX Sea World

Actually, it all started when I was working behind the cheddar curtain i(in Wisconsin). the other trades on the job sites had such a good time once they found out I was a yooper, they just started calling me "Super Dave" like the dave osbourne stunt man. It didn't take long to morph into "yooperdave" after that.
