I pack heat 24/7. Even inside my own home. At my wood lot (deer camp not my home), I pack 2. My glock 23 owb holster, and an ar on my atv. Spare mags for both. I'm surrounded by meth heads, thieves, coy dogs, wild dogs, a meth head neighbors pack of boxers which are terribly aggressive and wander, and during deer season, tresspassers. My driveway is a half mile off the county road. Anyone within eyeshot of my property gets to see exactly how protective I am of what's mine. I ran a guy off 2 weeks ago trying to sneak a treestand in middle of the night. He spun tires down that whole half mile driveway on his way out....in reverse. He didn't like being greeted at gunpoint and blinded by a crazy bright tac lite.
I'm guessing the chances of someone accosting you in the woods with a chainsaw is pretty low to non-existent. If someone were going to rob you in the woods they probably have a rifle or shotgun, and the noise of the saw would give anyone wanting to rob you the element of surprise so pulling your pistol in self defense would probably mean you get shot.
You have valid points but most people that I know who carry have a certain awareness of their surroundings. Even when other people would think they are distracted.
I understand the "heightened awareness" I carry mostly in my truck. I ran my saws for ~2hrs today and then the splitter for another hour. When I'm running any of those pieces of equipment I keep my focus on them
I know lots of guys who cut firewood in the woods and have never heard of any type of incident where a gun would have been useful. I can't imagine any animal, except perhaps a rabid one, approaching a guy with a chainsaw, and if one did the chainsaw would be plenty of protection. I have also never heard of anybody being robbed or assaulted in the woods around here, at least not guys out with wood cutting gear. So no, I don't pack a gun to cut wood. I might if it were hunting season but lately I have been cutting near houses so I couldn't shoot anyway.
Well if your in FHC you need a camera to take pic or cell phone that can do it I get no reception so I leave it and never cut alone. As for a gun I carry and shoot.. coy dogs.. and fisher cats if I see them .. like the judge with few 4-10 shot gun rounds.. or 22 mag on tractor..
In Wisconsin, and other states I'm sure, any legal gun owner can open carry. Concealed carry licenses have to be granted by permit.
Kinda the same here. You have to have a permit to "carry"...doesn't say anything about open or concealed.
I would think the workplaces that allow carry of any firearm are pretty rare. It would have to be a firearm related store. Otherwise I haven't seen one workplace that allows it. If caught you could lose your job. However, if responsible people that carried, could at work, there would be much better outcomes to gunman situations at workplaces.
I wasn't "allowed" but it was concealed and never used. If I needed it, my last concern would have been losing my job. Btw, now self employed,
Cell phone definately. Usually wear bib overalls so cell is in front breast pocket in case of emergency. Usually have ruger lcp or glock 27 in the truck or in pocket depending on where I am at. Sometimes I scrounge free craigslist wood from the "hood". Just sayin.
There's plenty of times while running a saw that if you were not to be paying full attention to the saw, and what you're sawing, and what happens when you cut. That you might be in more self inflicted danger than from other people.
Actually, you are technically legit, since it's your truck, regardless if it's on the employers lot. My former employer tried to say you couldn't have any firearm if on their property. The parking lot was one exact place mentioned in their new rule. They quickly found that they were wrong and had to change that verbiage. Now, if the car is owned by the company, then they can say no firearms in it at all, not just on the work parking lot.
I carry concealed everywhere. Don't ever want to be in any situation where I need my gun and don't have it on me. I always cocentrate on what I'm cutting and don't even think about my gun so that is not an issue for me. To each their own but for me a piece of mind knowing I can defend myself anytime anywhere.
