I was wondering, if anything, what you guys bring along when you go wood cutting in the realm of firearms? When cutting in the woods I would feel more comfortable about having atleast something to protect me if needed. Is this even necessary? Who brings guns cutting with them? And what kinds?
If you are cutting alone your cellphone is a must! Keep it on you,not in the truck or on the quad etc. Had a local that got pinned and smashed his legs about 5-6 years ago. He was just lucky the neighbors heard him yelling, his phone was in his truck. Gary
The cellfone thing is a good idea, more so if a guy is falling trees. I almost always leave mine in the truck. Keeping it on you would be much better in an emergency.
Most times small gun goes with in woods. Not because of animals. Cell phone always on side. We have great reception here.
Why only with felling, plenty of accidents happen when doing routine stuff, i ALWAYS have my phone on me, mosty for emergency stuff than keeping up with FHC. Also, so that if my wife or parents have an issue i know about it wherever i am.
I would not classify that as a "Saturday Night Special" aka a cheap, low-caliber pistol or revolver, easily obtained and concealed. Saturday Night Special Lyrics - Lynyrd Skynyrd
Personally, I've never felt the need to carry a weapon into the woods. I don't live in Grizzly Bear country and the local black bears aren't much of a threat. I'm more bothered by flying and crawling insects than 2 or 4 legged problems... A cell phone and a small first aid kit would probably most useful in an emergency.
Are you just curious or have you had issues in the past that protection was needed? The last tree that tried to mug me got cut down to size. Now I can take my riding mower under the branches without being patted down.
That thing lives in my front right pocket- concealable as heck. Cheap, not really low caliber,"Shoots him full of thirty-eight holes", i dont get that from the song, i get small and concealable to settle your business at the bar. But .357 is the same basic diameter as .38.

I always take a gun when going into the woods for cutting. Some times it is my 45 glock and some times I take a 45 long colt wheel gun.
I take my cell phone and my chainsaw. If If i see an animal, 99.9% of the time, it'll run away. Same goes for any 2 legged critter when they see a 6'4", 250 lb guy wielding a chainsaw. Now, if I start scrounging in the inner city for all those locusts and oaks, then yeah, I'll pack heat.
Any animal that might bother me can be defended with the chain saw. I do carry a gun in the woo0ds sometimes but not when I am cutting wood. It is for hunting activities.
Always carry. Cutting wood, working in the yard, going to town. One never knows when trouble will arise.
