Stihl MS390 versus MS360, Worth Fixing the 390 up?

    I agree with Lukem and SquareFile. . I'd use it.

    If yiu were worried, you could make plates and run a pressure test on just the cylinder.

    But my guess is it will be fine. I've seen some funny marks in the top of cylinders, that were very similar to that.

    Would you guys recommend that I smooth that out carefully or just leave it as no big deal. Obviously I don't want to remove any significant metal and reduce my compression! :rofl: :lol:

    Just wanted to finish up this thread. I finished up the saw and it runs great. Ended up having to put more work and parts into it than I had figured, as well as trouble shoot some problems along the way. Looks a little cleaner now huh? Also did a pretty aggressive "Quadra Ported" MM on it too.

    Overall it runs and sounds great! One of these days I'll cut it against the 036/360 and see where things stand, but it definitely is no slouch! Got a lot of satisfaction out of turning the old "boat anchor" into a "screaming old beater". :thumbs:
