I took my tahoe to walmart to get BFG ALL terrains, 4 of them. double checked on the phone they were ALL terrain vs longterrain. Drove an hour there, again reassured they were ALLterrain. Went shopping in the store 1/2 hour later I was called over the loudspeaker. They had left it in neutral with the door open, rolled backwards into cement post and bent my door back, and it was sporting new longterrains:headbang:

Looks like another top 10 Fall day here. Already up to 60* in the sun. Gonna do some tinkering outdoors, and then watch some football. Water in the park here is out, as the well pump took a chit, so Gold & Red smoothies are in my future to keep me "hydrated" properly.

Another reason NOT TO GO TO Walmart!, no offense to anyone who likes or works there, just my experiences there are often more stressful than productive.

There is a small place near me called Tire Guys that is doing gangbusters over the past 2 years. Local guy and all he does is wheels and tires-small unassuming metal building in Farmington, nothing fancy or flashy. He will beat anyone on price and he is still making money hand over fist and his place is busy open till closing every day. I dont think you get the extras as Towne Fair offer though. If all you want is tires and nothing else, I would always recommend him.

That's my concern as well, closest Wmart that does tire installation is an hour away, and is going to require a in-person visit ..

But it is on-route to McManus fuels, sooo ... A pellet run is a perfectly acceptable 'dual-use' trip.

Thanks for the heads-up WW, appreciate it.

    * Edit: just re-read, that really does suck about the door, and wrong tires to boot. Going to have to re-think that visit, THANKS WW.

I'll give him a call, as long as I'm heading to Barrington ... Travel-wise, "In for a penny, in for a pound", as they say.

We have an addition concern here. Seems we are the largest and poorest County in the State of TAXation aka New York. They made some cost cutting decisions years ago. Rather than do the necessary foundation work when they modernized the roadways from narrow oversized one lane highways into safer, wider modern highways, they simply paved right over the shoulders. So our highways...State, County and some local roads have a three to five foot wide section of highway that breaks off, on each side of the roadway, sinks and leaves gapping holes, that are sometimes continuous for the length of the highway. You can see down the layers of repaved highway. Seems it is cheaper to continuously "shim" these defects with a four foot wide application and then repave the whole mess. They look good for a while and a few short years fall into a total mess again.
The Amish mistakenly are blamed by the ignorant for damaging the surface with their steel wheels. The County Engineer told me it would cost about $100,000 per mile to redo properly. Our county just made huge cuts in public services.

So it seems we have a special tax for the extra repairs we do to out vehicles such as front end parts, alignments, tires. The roads are so bad motorcycle tires can become tracked and therefore it is very dangerous. :picard:

Wow, the wifey interrupted my posting this for s few hours, I should have checked, the note said there were 27 posts since I last up dated. Sorry if it seemed off topic. I was going to add that we have General AT2 on both vehicles. Highly rated snow and rain.

I did not mean to deter you from walmart, but should have been clear the phone quotes can be useless;) The accident with my door could have happened anywhere...

My current project for a friend: [IMG]

I'm doing the fiberglass work he's handling the mechanics. Tomorrow I start the huge restoration (really rough shape) of this:

Not entirely off the list, but your experience gives a healthy dose of 'caution' - our trusted Mechanic is unable to help w/ any tire mounting or balancing due to health issues, so I'm outside of my comfort-zone on this one. Thanks again WW.

Not off-topic at all Ambient: in NH many roads were in the same condition you describe, Thankfully the DOT has been properly fixing them (state highways / roads) over the past 20 years or so since we moved here.. I give them a lot of credit for doing that, it's a major project to properly fix those sections of road, when they do them.

But local roads in town are an entirely different matter, it's the same story, and the roads get heaved and dicey in winter.. Welcome to the woods in NH.

Really starting to lean towards a true aggressive s**w tire, with studs, given that my wife & daughters will be driving the car mostly..

One of the hills is a 40% incline/decline, and sharply curved.. It claims more than a few vehicles each winter. Never been an issue in the Sportage w/ 4x4 engaged running General AT2's, but the Camry is an entirely different animal.. I wish I could throw the AT2's here on the Camry, different size. :(

Altimax Artics, with studs, is quickly rising to the top of the list here for the '00 Camry.
