CFM Corporation Stove

I am posting this for information. I appreciate to the ends of the earth that I was given a stove to help me stay warm this winter. I in no way complaining; the help means more than anything in the world to me.

The stove I picked up was not an NC-13. The stove is a CFM Corporation with a model number that is a maybe. On the sticker is written beside a FW270xxx, 70B. I was guessing the stove may be a model FW27070B. There is a manufacturing date of July, 2006 written on the sticker on the back of the stove. My searches on the net are turning up nothing. I did find "CFM operated from 1987 until going bankrupt in April 2008, at one time owning Vermont Castings. They were probably the largest woostove manufacturer in Noth America." It appears that Century Hearth may have brought the assets of the company as some of their stoves carries similar model numbers. I contacted the company to see if they had the archives of the CFM Corporation.

At this time I am wondering if I will be able to use the stove in my manufactured home. Perhaps I can use it this winter and replace it before next winter. The baffle plate is burned out but I was thinking I could get a sheet metal shop to fabricate one for me if I can get the old one out to be used as a template.

Any information anyone can give me is appreciated.

 

Century has all the old manuals available for download on their site. I can't link from my phone but there are 2 models with fw270 in the model #. I'd look at both of em and figure out which one you have.

 

Kimberly, check for an OAK inlet under/at the back of the stove. Should be a round hole or port about 3" diameter, if it has one.
If not, I don't know if the install would be legal.

it looks similar to that stove but keep in mind that the manual for that stove is not the manual for the one I have. That stove is a current manufactured stove and there may be differences in that stove from mine even though it has a similar model number. I would need to find a manual for the stove I have to make sure of the requirements such as clearances.

 

There is no outside air hookup inlet.

 

FYI: I will be leaving for the boonies today so may not be able to answer questions later today.

 

I would need the manual from CFM, Century manuals would be for the stoves they built and they may have made changes from the CFM model. I may be out of a stove this winter since I am in a predicament with this CFM stove.

Lowe's had a Pleasant Hearth on clearance earlier this year for $350.00 and I let it get away from me

 

I am still going to build a hearth to support the R value requirement of the NC-13/NC-30. Hopefully this stove would be similar.

 

CFM is the manufacturing Co, Century is the model.
Just as ESW is the manufacturer, and Englander 13NC is the model.
CFM may be out of business, so looking in other places might produce what you need.
However, w/o the OAK, it seems to be moot.
Good idea to perhaps overbuild the hearth. You never know what might end up sitting on it.

 

I may have to use it anyway; there is no way I can buy a new stove. I could try looking on Craig's List.

 

It looks like SBI owns the century line now. Everything you need to know in regards to clearances Is on the UL tag in your picture. But if this is a mobile home install it won't be up to code.

However, just guessing at the model number. That particular model is not listed on their site. Hopefully they will answer my query to them.

 

I'd hesitate doing that. If there were a fire and the stove wasn't installed to code, Ins. Co. probably won't pay.
Get the pipe and hearth done and keep looking for an appropriate stove on CL.
Where (closeby is fine) are you in Virginia?

mobile home stove requires OAK ( outside air intake) to be compliant with codes. Course the mobile home I used to have -the whole place was an outside air intake.

 

I feel really bad about this.. I bought this stove at home Depot on a clearance end of season sale. it distinctly said England nc-13 on the rack and paper sheet inside stove! I never read back of stove.... in fact when I called for replacement firebrick and gasket I ordered them from Englander. firebrick fit they were cut at angles for back ... I am at a loss... I am willing to try to help make it right...

 

You made it right already. It will turn out fine in the end.

Wow CBV... after all you went thru to get that stove to her, and she clearly really appreciates all of the effort... you shouldn't feel badly about anything that happens after the fact. You had a stove you no longer wanted... she wanted it... and you made that happen. You went the extra mile to try and help...... and that, was a very good thing...

 

Thanks guys that helps. but I know I bought this stove in either 08 or I think o9 at home depot. I know it said Englander in 2 pieces of paper in firebox when I got it (that I can't find) and blower were inside firebox. firebrick were inside pedestal ash drawer.
it has the same poorly designed 3.5 square inch firebrick with metal you lift to put ash into ash pan and damper control on top right above loading door. I'm stumped.
