And no surprise, it's all ash. Thanks eab. :headbang: Got half of it split and hauled home today along with the brush pile burnt. The other half has yet to be dropped. It's all standing dead.

New pallets to be installed, and considering a shed for 2 years worth on my whopping .14 acre but that cuts into the dog's Frisbee area......decisions suck.

Thoughts if your lot was that small?

My yard is nearly that same size. My answer to you-less grass to mow!
My initial guess for what I put up this year+the very little I had left over from last year was 8 or so cords.
Pulled the tape measure on all the various stacks the other day. Recalculated to right at 13 cords.

Yep we all like fairy tales like Cinderella and Snow White, but it always seems more believable when you can see the movies.

Did you put up that much wood in a year? No wonder you broke yourself:startled:

bocefus78, is there any way to get creative and preserve the yard for your 4 legged bud? Like stacking on the side of fences, under decks, etc?

A cord of wood stacked 4 feet tall takes up 32 ft2...but stacked 5 feet tall only takes up 25.6 ft2. Stack 'em high and tight.

For 5 cord of wood that's the same space required for 4 by going up that extra foot.

I think it was Pyroholic that had some really tall cubes. But if I remember correctly he was using a ladder to stack them up and was having good success with them.

20151204_093315.jpg Ok people.....here it is. I had 12oz priorities when I got home yesterday. Funny how saws and wood does that to me. I also think this is a softer type of ash i havent had before. Growth rings are very far apart. 0.75 inches apart! It should stack out to just under a cord.

Another option instead of raising the height of your stacks is to lay out pallets across your entire back yard. Then stack your wood to a foot or two across those pallets. The more wood you bring in the more you add to the height of the pile. Or even do that to just half of your yard. Either way your dog will have a place to run. An added benefit is less lawn to mow.

Who needs a lawn when you can have a lawn made up of nothing but firewood? :D

Any way you could store wood on another property? Otherwise I guess you need to stack high, as others have said. Maybe along a fence line. What's the footprint of a holz hausen? Aren't each of those a few cord? Maybe a couple would do ya right.

Get a bigger place? Set up the dog's running space as a hallway between stacks?

Yep, it was me. About 11 cord in those three stacks. Did the top from the bed of the truck. Had someone feeding me the lady splits so I didn't have to keep getting up and down off the bed rail.

Plenty of room here, but I think they look cool.

I'd be afraid those would tip over. How well do the cubes dry? It looks like you've got space between rows but have you done it without the space successfully?

No problem drying those. Most times we stack 3 rows tight together and have no problem.

The center one is almost 20 months standing. No movement yet. I have 4 stickers stacked across all three rows about halfway up. Full sun and wind so should be dry. Red and white oak, and apple.

The right stack had a lean to it since I stacked it. It may or may not need some attention, but it's been a year so far.

I have black locust stacked similarly for about 2 years. I haven't checked any out since this will be my first year really burning (stove gets inspected tomorrow). I'm hoping the center rows are dry. There's airflow but not much sun.
