I just took possession of an old Southbend 9a for a measly $100 bucks. It's a little long in the tooth, but should still be useful. Plus, I should be able to turn a few mandrels to use for changing port timing and squish on project saws. :)

Good little lathe, can't beat the price you paid for it. Did you get some tooling with it?

Some HSS blanks, a couple face plates, a drill chuck, a steady rest and a few other odds and ends. I've got a fair amount of tooling at work that I can borrow anytime also. Long term I would like to pick up a step pulley (j head) Bridgeport. Then a 10ee Monarch or larger Monarch and a #2 k&t horizontal. I would be set then. :)

For as cheep as I got this Southbend for, I may be tempted to get the ways reground or find a nicer bed for it once I get into it. We'll see where this all takes me. Definitely the perfect lathe to teach kids on. That was my original thoughts anyway.

I'll be curious when you get it up and running. Your tooling is a deal alone. Nice score!

I live off of River Road (602) about 5 miles from the Amelia/Chesterfield line. I remember seeing you at Ernie's place a few years ago. I was the younger guy taking a lot of photos. Does this look familiar? :) Do you make it over this way much?

    Guido,

I hope you didn't mind me posting a pic of you. I'll ask a mod to remove it if you want. That does look like a nice running 056 though.

Not a problem, a bunch of guys here have met me though GTG's on this site and AS. Besides that, check my form and how even and straight those cookies are!

I get back from time to time, I guess that puts you near Winterpock?

Good form indeed! A couple miles from Winterpock. Real close to where Coalboro comes out on River.

Here is the link to that GTG, if anyone is interested in checking out my photos. That was my first GTG and made a few friends while I was there. Up to that point, I had no idea that people were so serious about older saws. It was quite the experience and helped rekindle my love for photography. These aren't as good as some of the heritage festivals that I have been to since then, but they are still pretty good in my humble opinion.
