In all seriousness, robots are generally a good thing. They are digital minions from the major search engines that read your threads (but do not post) and report back to Google, Bing, Ask, or wherever what content is here on the site. If we get too many of them or they get too aggressive (little bastards can read much faster than we can) they can lag the site but so far, things seem to be staying under control. They are key to having FHC pop up in search results. Then folks click on those links and we get a "hit" that the search engine keeps track of. The more of our content that gets "hit", the more often and more prominently that search engine returns results from FHC. Should probably buy the 'bots a beer.....
Google is an evil information gathering machine. They have gathered information on each and every one of us based on our internet usage. Use their other services and you give more up. If you use their DNS server you are telling them every single website that you visit, without using their search engine. They might not be using your direct content like in google docs, but just your browsing habits give away a lot. How do you think they know what ad to put in front of you. You have no privacy at all. It is truly scary what it knows.
There have been times where I have considered disconnecting from all things internet. You can still get a lot of information from good magazines, books, etc. Then I think about it and say, "No way"! Think of all the fun I would miss without bullchitting with you guys!
Hah. They ain't doing anything your credit card company hasn't been doing for decades. You know those rewards cards at the electronics/grocery/department/hardware store? Yup. Selling information about consumer behavior is nothing new.
Do a google or yahoo search" "How to compute Stove output BTU" bots are searching the site for a match They look around Yahoo Gets info back from the robots, yahoo gives you this : 2nd one is a FHC thread. Pay money to yahoo to advertise & you get higher or 1st on the returned search list. That's how "ehow" was 1st, they pay to be there even if they didn't match perfect .
When I noticed Scotty was gone from another forum, I googled "Scotty Overkill" Only took a couple of min to find him, so it ain't all bad. Glad to be here.
Fox9988, I did the same thing, but the Google header was "arrest records- recent". Guess where I ended up?
