So, I suppose I could have stuck this in another thread somewhere, but..........nah. Most of us, it seems, are using at least a little less wood so far this year, including me. This pic shows the Maple. That front stack was to the roof about 2 weeks ago, and there was a stack of Pine to the roof in front of it to start the season. Just about a cord. I have in the Maple stack, about 1/4 left. The one behind it is to be used until it's gone, probably mixed with Oak here and there. There's another 2 stacks (one cord) of Maple behind for spring, and finally almost 1/2 cord of Pine to finish. 2nd pic is the Oak side, with a little Ash on the far left that I ordered in Sept. or Oct.
Yep, very warm November has left us with a bit more wood than usual. Hope Mother Nature doesn't decide to play catch up.
Started burning later this year and have used less for sure. I'm good with mild temps for a while longer. Maybe a little snow December 23rd ish.
Same here; A little below normal wood consumption. Have had fire 24/7 for a little over 2 months but (except for a short colds snap ) temps are a bit above the norm. Starting back to normal weather today, mid 20° with mid teens at night. (long nights now) gone thru about 2 cord. Heading into the 2-1/2 months of our coldest temps with no snow on the ground. No doubt the fire will need to be burning hotter causing the wood consumption to increase.
We're on our 2nd day....in a row here. Have some nice small locust splits aflame. Still no need in sight of heavy operations....
It's been really mild compared to last year this time. I only used about one metal wood rack and that holds up 80 pcs of wood. I usually burn at nights to keep the kids warm...mother nature has something up her sleeve like last year..
Same here, just starting to get into filling the stove for the overnight. 19 deg. last night. Still very warm for us during the days.
I'm a little surprised no one's mentioned the pipe laying on the Oak. It's about a 4' section of round duct I got from my brother to add to the flue. Just a little trivia.
I noticed it- thought maybe you were experimenting with a small brick rocket stove, didn't want to force you into fessing up, sir.
Less than a 1/3 cord here. I think we all are a little gun shy of mother nature after the past couple winters.
Im still under 1/3 cord here too..... Its kinda nice. I'm far enough ahead and have enough rounds for coming years that ive sold about a 1/4 chord so far this year, friends with conventional fireplaces looking for good dry hardwoods for the holidays. I/m getting about $40 per 1/8th cord. Yea you heard right right $40 per 1/8th cord and everyone who bought some wants more
"Less than a 1/3 cord here. I think we all are a little gun shy of mother nature after the past couple winters." Yep, it's like waiting for the other shoe to drop. And, I have no idea where that saying came from. I saved a PDF of plans for a rocket stove. Guess I don't really need plans, but.....wutev
papadave Wanna share those plans? I have a garage that ive been toying with using a rocket stove for. IDK much about them but.... I have a welder and a brain.....
My wife's been wandering around the house singing the song from the Wiz of Oz....."If I Only Had A Brain" Not sure if she's trying to give me a hint about myself....or her. I'll dig up that plan.
