We've got more than you think, though. I just got done sorting everyone on this site by country and am getting ready to ask all the europeans and oceanics to add themselves to the map because it only looks like we have no members from over there and I dont think you guys are finding each other.
Welcome Jim, glad you joined us! love the pic of your little guy helping! Having traveled to your not to sunny climes I would recommend you get get it split and top covered as soon as possible because your drying times for firewood might be a little longer than average
I'm sure if you pay for the air fair there would be a bunch of us that would come over for a FHC get togerher. Hmmm...I wonder if they would allow chainsaws in our carry on bags? By the way welcome. Anyone from the land of Monty Pythons is OK in my book.

Hi VT, yep we certainly have high humidity over here, in fact our winters may not be cold by any stretch of the imagination but the damp means it can be a penetrating cold. All my split wood is undercover but those rounds are to be burnt in two winters, I just need to get around to processing them
Penetrating cold, I like that. Like when folks who live in the desert say "It's a dry heat" as if that makes it less hot. In Iowa we always call out winters "bitter."
It's true though, high humidity makes heat much more uncomfortable Look, if we went purely by temp you guys would seriously scoff at our Winters. A very cold winters day here would be low 30's F, we do however have an abundance of rain and wind so it's not all good.
I just did an Internet weather search for your area, and it looks like shoulder season all winter! I can see where all the rain and humidity would make it "feel" colder than what it really is.
Yeah, it's uncomfortable. I split in rain and snow yesterday but its nothing like -40 with a high wind. I would love to live in the UK, I've always had a great appreciation for your country.

I'm picking up some of the lingo and I know what you mean by shoulder season wood but where does the term come from?
well if you live you chart a temperature graph over time ever axis... the low Temps of 20 to 30 in fall and spring and the really cold Temps of negative 20 to 30 of January and February it looks like an upside down shoulder.... head and another shoulder before warm up ... I cant find a good graphic but if you can visualize what I'm saying that's where it comes from..
It's crazy to think I'm at a similar latitude to Winnipeg and yet an average January max would be about 7*C (is that low 40*s F?) for us. Thank goodness for the Gulf Stream / North Atlantic drift is all I can say!
Very nice Jim. Was that a fireplace at some point? Otherwise, looks like an alcove install. How old is the stove? With temps in the 30's and 40's, it's tough to run a stove (unless of course, you have a cat stove). I'm either chilly or a bit too warm.
