If you have cheaper stuff, save the Okies for the colder months. I guess that in this sense, they really are strategically placed :)

Its a real pain if you have the softies within reach and need the hardwood :zip:

TSC is a complete disaster to deal with, at least here in Peterborough.

They carry McFeeters and one other brand (can't remember the name but I seem to think it's a TSC brand) along with the Spruce Pointe which they just started carrying.

If I was to go in tomorrow my guess is you'd be lucky if they had a couple skids in stock. The prices are not great, but they tend to be comparable to other suppliers on bulk sales for high end pellets.

With my local TSC if you want large amounts of pellets you need to preorder, and that is a joke in itself. Last time I did a preorder I had to call to find out my order came in, only to find out it'd been there for weeks, even though I'd called and asked about my order at least twice. The worst part was when I went to get my preordered skids they had been broken open so to fill my order they had to put a bunch of part skids together and some bags were broken open. They started to get upset with me when I refused to take the broken bags.

It'd be three burning seasons now since I last bought wood pellets from TSC, and I doubt I'll ever buy from them again.

After using good pellets this year, I'm never going to deal with bbs pellets again.

It seems to be the mindset in that retail outlet. They just don't get it. I've written to their Headquarters, received nice replies, but the problem goes on just the same.

Really? Not surprising. Hard to believe they manage to stay in business.

My parents were in TSC one day and there was some TSC head there that day and he was talking to the clerks and asking questions that had to do with something or other about customer complaints. Well I guess some guy in line started going off on the guy about how poorly run the store is, the fact that they never have anything in stock that is in the flyers etc etc. My parents never hung around to catch the reply, but I'm sure he didn't care. Most corporate heads are yes men and just say what needs to be said to get by. Nothing is ever done to remedy issues and they don't seem to care. As long as enough people flock to the store to keep them open that's all they care.

I agree. My only issue is that the stuff TSC carries for wood pellets is pretty decent. It's just that TSC is a nightmare to deal with! They nice thing about you guys in the States is that you seem to have many more options with regards to wood pellets than we do up here.

Don't count out the boxes entirely. They have some good stuff from time to time.

Right on. I find I'm burning a bag every 2 to 2.5 days this year vs. a bag a day at this time last year!

How warm do you keep your place?

I burned about 1.5 bags in the last 24 hours between the two stoves. Keeping the main floor at 71 (by thermostat setting in room 1/2 way between stove and far end of house). Cellar Dweller is set at about 72-73 since it is keeping foundation warm and any excess heat flows upstairs. Both are set at room temp/auto for now. Have probably burned about a ton since early September.

Nice. I tried that but have found that my house is so poorly insulated that it's best just to set the stove to keep the house around 70 all the time. I find it more comfortable that way rather that cranking the heat when I get home and still having the cool furniture and floors. Plus when I was playing around with the temp settings I found I wasn't saving that much in fuel.

Now, the side note to this is that when I was single and really turned down the heat when I was at work or sleeping I saved a lot in pellet usage.

Sweet. How cold does it get where you live? How cold is it right now?

I'm starting to see some colder weather the last day or two so I know my pellet usage will start going up. As I mentioned in another post, my house isn't insulated well at all.

Like many retailers of this size (small-medium compared to big box stores) its all tied to the attitude of the workers. The TSC in Rochester, I can get a lot of help or a "meh, whatever" type of help.
