Great thread artc. This topic has come up with more than a few folks that I've talked to. Not sure of the bag count, but I do know that we haven't had a full burn yet this season before shutting off the burner. It seems to me that we had the stove running full throttle most of the time last season.
Lol. I might've missed one or two. We like to see for ourselves what pellets are in our market and how the brands we carry compare. Occasionally we'll have a customer willing to trade a few bags of something we can't get our hands on.
Next time I swing down there ill contact you first. See if there something I have you want or maybe I can find it for you. Wish I thought of that last time I was down there.
never burned pellets til this season,so cant compare, but i can give a number, looks like 24-26 bags cant tell exactly cause of the way the stacks are.
great!!!,i can see why you guys get so******** about chasing different brands, its fun. the problem i see is that its kinda a roll of the dice with the pellets, what if "that kind" aint the same next year?
I agree... We do not have any where near that big of a selection locally, but I tried about anything I could find around here... Like you, to see how our stuff stacks up... Not necessarily to knock others, but to know what we have.. Dan
Last November I burned 32 bags. So far this November I've burned 4. Any day with a high over 40 is money in the bank far as I'm concerned.
With a large amount, I'd contact the seller and see if they can work a replacement order out. Many of the pellet dealers understand. The BBS are a bit more of a PITA if you need to do a swap. But if your persistent they will. Usually the batches are fairly consistent for the most part. So its not very common for this to happen. I've tried a few bags and went back in a few weeks and the same truck load is still being picked from. But I usually buy in the slow season. I don't recommend trying in the fall(rush) and then waiting for spring to get them. Its not as likely to see the same batch if the place moves large amounts quickly. Keep your samples close to the time you are interested in buying usually lessens the batch variance. Always inspect the tons before the driver leaves. Specially for water damage.
Thems' the breaks. I ran into that this year. I burned Lacwood last year and was happy with them, but I'm not happy with them this year. They are aren't burning near as hot as last year. I think what I'll do this year is whatever pellets I am happiest with at the end of this year is what I'll fill my basement with, if I can get them, in the spring. That should at least avoid pellet performance let down next winter. Then next winter I'll tour the locals and grab a few bags of what they stocked up with and see how each is burning. So far this year I've burned Lacwoods and Curran hardwoods and have some pinnacles waiting to hit the stove. So far my top choice is the Curran hardwoods. I wish I had better options here where I am.
Stick around and keep trying different brands. You will find the ones that are consistent year to year. A few that come to mind are Spruce Pointe, Lacrete, Okies, Vermont. There are others that you can rely on for consistantcy
My local TSC started selling Spruce Pointe wood pellets this year, but they never have any quantities if I decided I wanted to burn them in any volume other than a test bag or two. The reviews seem good on them but hate to waste the time getting some test bags if I can't buy in a large volume.
i got a ton of okies was waiting for colder weather plus theyre not strategically placed in the stacks
That's the same reason I haven't tried any douglas fir pellets. Not much sense since I most likely wont pay the price. If your TSC has Spruce Pointe, how much do they get in at once? What else do they carry and how is the pricing?
