Anybody have experience with this chain? Picked up 2 loops from the local saw shop. Some cutters are sharp, found a couple that weren't even sharp, as in still a solid rectangle! They were made off a bulk roll. Anyway, its 3/8 .058 full chisel chain. I'm using the husky file guide and the cutter only comes up about 1/2 way on a 7/32 file. So essentially it flattens the cutter when looking at it from the side view, rather than makeing a nice rolled, angled cutter. I switched to a 3/16 file and they look much better. It seems the cutters are a little shorter height wise than my husky chain so I'm guessing thats the issue? Question is do I take them back? One is used and one still new. They were $25 and change a piece. Or just file them with a smaller file and never buy another!
Whew! That's a lot of change for an off brand chain. Problem is, by correcting it now, you're destroying the evidence. I'd let the shop know you have had trouble and see if they will replace the loop(s). Then I'd file the old ones as necessary and go make some firewood.
Yeah its probably some cheap import stuff! I will definitely not buy anymore. I may try to return the one I haven't used. I will definitely be visiting the Stihl dealer or be ordering online next time. I've read the stihl chain is pretty resilient but tougher to resharpen by hand. Is that true?
Ya x2 the stihl chains are the best, i really dont even like the carlton chains much anymore as the last one i bought seems really soft.
Any name brand loop will be cheaper than that $25 unless you have located a high cost provider or you have a long bar to fit. I like what I have seen so far in Stihl chains and Oregon chains.
How long are these loops cause thats a steep price!! Id take both back!!! I can buy stihl 20" loops for that! Husky loops can be had online shipped for under $20 a loop for 20"
Order chain next time if you have to. Unless those are really long loops you can get quality chain delivered to your door for less than that.
yep ive had good luck there as well. ive found cheaper prices elsewhere only once, and that was on a blowout sale.
They were 20". The more I look at it, it looks like it is square ground full chisel. Can't it still be round filed though? Just trying to support a recently opened (just over a year ago) local lawn mower and small engine shop is all. I like to keep things local the best I can. I got the other one filed so it works great now! Got it to look more like the correct husky chain the place I ordered the saw from sent me. (Sent me .325, .050 instead of 3/8, .058. So I had a saw and no chain , bought this stuff in a pinch) I cut blow down, and already dropped logs in the dirt, all oak for 4 hrs and it held up well for what I would call pretty dirty wood. It does seem a touch softer than my 450's husky chain though. Prolly won't get any more but will use up the one I'm already using and try to return the other one.
I turned a logger buddy of mine who also has a small retail store with logging stuff and truck parts onto them last sale they had. I think he bought something like 50 or 100, 20" loops. They remembered him on a later order as they said they had never had anybody order that many at once!! They came out to like $14 a loop shipped to his door.
