Some one on like AS or hearth posted some part numbers. I put those in to Baileys site to find the one I bought. I would be willing to bet money I didnt pay close to that.

Ok I looked up my order. I was thinking I could see me paying $6-7 but not $15.

So here is my order details. I paid like $8.50 for it. I swear I thought it was like $4?

I was trying to post screen caps but phone was not cooperating. Ok I got it. I could not make the whole thing to show up so I had to pull the screen over and take another one.

Nice!! And that exhaust is a perfect example on why a 036 is less choked than a 039/390. That is the big pre EPA hole.

You can enlarge that opening from that front slit, and go back behind the original hole. That should make that saw sound and run beautiful! !

Here is a video of the 034 Super going against the 039. When I tried the saw stock I was pretty disappointed in it. I gave it the nick name Oh turdy nine. I think my MS 250 would have gave it a good run. I did a muffler mod to the 039 and it picked up 3 seconds so I added another hole to the muffler and I also blew out the air filter with some brake cleaner and it picked up more. I felt like the air filter was holding the saw back some. I need to get a new filter for it. I had previously tried a paint brush and compressed air on the filter. The same bar and chain was used on both saws.

That's a downside of Stihl's Intellicarb compensating carb design. It masks a clogged air filter. DexterDay had an 036 that started and ran fine, but had no power at all in the wood. Both of us were scratching our heads until he changed the air filter a few days later and the saw came to life.

This one does not have an intellicarb.

A clogged filter will still yield the same results.

The flock filter on that 360 looked great, but it was toast. A new filter and it was running like a (fill in the blank!!)!!!

When I got the saw I dumped the gas and oil, brush and blew the filter off and retuned it. By retuning it, it somewhat masked the problems of a clogged air filter. The saw did not perform right and I could tell it was not starving for gas so I took the filter back off and split it apart and held it up to the light and I could see it was very restricted. Then I blew it out with brake clean and got it in decent shape. I might try to figure out a way to get a better filter on it.

    12/3 UPDATE

I finally had some time to get the cylinder out of the saw as I was busy with Thanksgiving and hunting ................. priorities! I forgot an important issue to throw in the mix on this saw, it needs a "helicoil" as its threads are badly stripped. I ordered one and was going to follow MM's posting on the installation of this particular type: Sav-A-Thread spark plug hole repair. | Firewood Hoarders Club (Thanks as usual MM )

The piston and cylinder look surprisingly nice for the exterior condition of this saw. However, once it has the sav-a-thread installed, I'm not sure I want to do anything to this one that would increase its current compression. I'm thinking that I should just get it running as is and sell it, or maybe just gift it back to my friend in nice running condition. ;)

Not a whole lot you can do easily to tighten up the compression on that unit. On the other hand, if this became a 2 piece head build ...... :dremel: :dex:

I bet compression is through the roof! And shortly thereafter, the quarter.

It would have to be a welded pop up or a piston from another 49 mm saw modified to work. (I've not heard of that being done in an 039 but that's not to say it's impossible.)

Those kinds of options make you want to think about cutting the squish and decking the crankcase/cyl halves, similar to how most saws with removable cylinders are modified to achieve the same results. But then you have to re-machine the bearing bores and whoooo-ee that's a lot of work that you absolutely cannot screw up.

I believe Mastermind has done an 039 with a pop-up?
