Or that they dont care how much fuel out how clean my 1980 k10 runs but they care about new ones. I know they can't make old stuff clean and new vehicles are the majority and our air is cleaner now than before...just makes no sense.

Fwiw, gas with ethanol makes more power. It just gets s little less mpg or run time per gallon or whatever unit you measure by.

It's not really a problem, but rather a worldwide factor.

    Winner. winner, chicken dinner.
EPA requires specific emissions and fuel economy. All current stock saws run 50:1 fuel:eek:il. All woods ported saw should be run @ 32-40:1; which is great for lubrication of high performance engines, but is terrible for emissions and fuel economy.

Are you sure about the more power? I doubt that, but don't know for sure. If it made more power, why would it not get better mpg?

Supposedly it provides a very slight increase in power....race cars run on ethanol I think. The emissions are killing the power, the ethanol just wrecks the engine and fuel delivery systems....

I think he is right alcohol makes more power and has a higher octane. Thats why all the drag cars and race saws run it.

I think the deal thats confusing is that you have to run more volume of fuel to make that power.

I've never heard of it. But if I was racing cats they'd be on an all meat diet.

That's the problem. Unfortunately most people just think it's the devil, and doing look into what the reality of ethanol is. It's a little different than regular gas. It's a great cleaner too, and it will clean all sorts of gunk out your tank, and deposit it in seats, filters, you name it. Ethanol isn't that good to rubber components though.

Racing cats? I'd rather race rocket powered gas flame shooting cats. :fart:

    They're faster.:)

You can buy carbs that are meant for e85, or 100% alcohol, and they make a LOT more power than their gasoline counterparts.

I don't think this is the case, as a manufacturer could get a distinct advantage if they made a light / more powerful saw. It is a competive market. Opening up the ports is not rocket science, they can easily figure out that a different size or shape of the port and higher compression will make the saw produce more power.

I think there is something else going on, most probably emissions or durability, as previously stated.

They run methanol in race cats don't they?

That reminds me of a joke I haven't heard in years and years. A farmer has a constipated cat, so he goes to the drugstore or veterinarian and asks for a laxative. The druggist or vet is going deaf and thinks the farmer says "calf" and fixes him up with a dose. He sees the farmer the next day and asks how the patient is doing. The farmer says "He's doing OK, I think. There's two cats ahead of him digging new holes, two cats behind covering them up and two cats looking for new ground".

Ok, GM and Toyota are the only car manufacturers, and I will just pretend the others don't exist. There, another monopoly!

Btw, if it were two companies, it would be called a duopoly.
