58deg and sunny in NH today - couldn't resist getting back to the trees I need to cut and haul. Met my neighbor early and we put in about 5 hours of work - lots of cutting and clearing brush. Managed to get two more full loads in his F250 and back to the house - plan to split early and then go back for more cutting and hauling. One full load of ash and oak with a bit of red maple, and a second full load of all red oak. To save my back a bit, we started loading his tractor bucket and I'd unload from the bucket into the truck - slows things down a bit, but really saves on the body. I picked up a mint 51 on the cheap almost a year ago and never had a chance to really run it. Did a muffler mod, fixed a bad fuel line, and fixed the stripped carb screws on the air intake bulkhead. Tuned her to 12400 and I'm pretty impressed - cut real well and I think it will become one of my favorite little saws to run. Running the 18" bar/chain off my Dolly, might pick up a permanent 16" bar for this saw - but we'll see. Some pics of the fun! Should yield two more stacked pallets. Tomorrow I hope to buck 3 smaller white ash and a medium sized black birch, and then head down to skid more oak. Should have another load back by tomorrow afternoon. What a blessing to have such a great year for wood, and right across the street! And my neighbor is about the best guy I could have moved next too - we've become close friends and he loves hopping on his tractor and working with me - using his truck for loads, etc. I've learned a lot from him and after a day of thinking about things to be thankful for, he is one of the big ones! Cheers! (Edit - sorry about the pics -tried to attach as thumbnails, but I guess not + a bit garbled with the text)
Looks awesome! That's how I spent my day too but it looks like you got more wood for sure! Great weather for being outside here in Virginia too!
Wow! That's warm! I'm guessing this is the last really warm day of the year - this just can't last.......but I hope it does! Cheers!
Looks great NH, man that 4x4 front loader looks like it would = the help or 2 other people. Nice set up.
Ha! Thanks - used to have a harder time keeping rounds equal length, but now I can just walk the log and most are within an inch or so of each other. Like most other things, we all get better with time and practice! Cheers!
Wish it was mine - it's my neighbors, but he lets me use it whenever I ask, which is great! He's usually in the front seat and I work around the tractor - he's almost 75 and his hip is pretty bad, so not a lot of ground time for him. Cheers!
We do enjoy each others company! He was a machinist before he retired - did R&D for cold rolled die machines - he's an unbelievable wealth of knowledge - I've learned a great deal since we first met in 2008. Cheers!
