Finally finished the rest of the splitting and stacking last week. Ended up with 11 full pallets. 9.5 pallets are straight red oak, and 1.5 pallets of white ash and red maple. I stacked this much higher than normal. I'm short (5'6") and the top of stacks are above my head. A few of the pallets were over-sized as well, so I think this set of stacks is more than I typically burn in a winter. The second stack from the left, front, is obviously leaning.....stacked that at 11pm with a headlamp........Also a pic of my single row stacks of rounds. I filled another 1.5 rows of nearly all red oak rounds - each row is a bit over 1/3 cord. And a pic showing the new stacks and the 16 pallets I stacked last fall and winter - might be too far away to see them. All told, I now have 46 full pallets stacked and 4 full rows of rounds + the 5 cord in the barn for this winter. All of the wood I cut now will be for 2020/2021. Managed to drop another 6 trees last week at the neighbors, and I still have at least half of the trees to buck, haul and split/stack that I dropped in May. So, if the fall and winter keep mild and I don't get snowed out of the woods, I think I could easily have another 11-12 pallets stacked in the next few months - but I'm sure Mother Nature will have something to say about those plans......I'm heading back to the woods tomorrow to start bucking and hope to have a nice full load back here by tomorrow afternoon! Phew! Cheers!
NH_Wood did I read this right your 5 years ahead?.. great job beautiful stacks and a very pretty setting!
Thanks Canadian - well......I have this years wood in the barn + a little over 4 years stacked outside.....not sure how that should be counted! I'll say I'm a solid four years ahead after this current burn season..........but on my way to a solid 5! That's my main goal at this point - I'd like to start selling 5 cord/year and buy 10 cord log loads - then just do all the work from my house instead of having to haul. But...I do love dropping trees and spending time cutting in the woods - but nothing says I can't do that too! Cheers!
Ha! I burn about 11 pallet stacks per year + uglies and chunks - comes to right about 5 cord/year - I burn 24/7. Cheers!
Thanks! But......heading out tomorrow for a good day of trigger time. Supposed to be sunny and 55 here in NH - t-shirt cutting! Cheers!
Wow those stacks are tidy! Being a solid 4 years ahead you must have a permanent grin on your face I salute you on both counts sir!
